Girls' JV basketball coach arrested on sexual assault charges ... - Fox43


DOVER, YORK COUNTY, Pa. -- Police in York County arrest a girls' basketball coach on charges of institutional sexual assault, as well as unlawful contact and communication with a minor for sexual offenses.

Both charges are third degree felonies.

Dover Area High School's girls' junior varsity team is up against Northeastern High School Wednesday night, but they are without their coach.

The Dover Area School District recently suspended 23-year-old girls' JV basketball coach Aignee Freeland.

Now, she's been arrested on charges related to an alleged sexual relationship with one of her players, a 16-year-old girl.

York County Children's Advocacy Center executive director Deb Harrison is familiar with helping families through cases like this.

"These things always occur in a culture of secrecy, and teenagers are already secretive from their parents. So, really encouraging parents to find ways to be parents," Harrison said.

"Often the temptation with teenagers is we want to be their best friend, and encouraging parents to to step forward, and say 'I'm the parent here, and I need to see your phone, I need to know who you're texting, I need to know who you're in communication with,'" Harrison added.

Court documents state that Northern York County Regional Police received reports of a relationship between the coach and the student.

A police investigation found 18 video calls made, received or missed on the victim's phone on two dates in late December.

"The coach should be able to communicate with parents about what's going on. There shouldn't be a need to text a child," Harrison said.

Court documents state the victim told investigators that she and the coach first chatted through social media, then through phone calls or text.

The victim also stated that she would meet with her coach at various locations after practice, sit in her car and talk, and that coach Freeland would touch her sexually, all over her body.

Police said both coach Freeland and the victim knew this could get Freeland in trouble, and that they agreed to keep their relationship a secret.

Whether their alleged relationship was consensual, Freeland now faces third degree felony charges for contact with a minor, and institutional sexual assault.

"It has to do with being in a position where you are in some sense, a position of power over a child. As a coach you may see yourself as their friend, but you are their coach. You are in a position where you can make decisions that impact that child," Harrison said.

"In terms of culpability and responsibility, we would again, point to that adult, that's the difference, it's an adult and a child, so we would really look to that and say this is an inappropriate relationship," Harrison added.

Harrison recommends parents should ask about their child's school's communication policy between students and coaches.

Some coaches may or may not be completely clear on that policy.

"They need to understand the ethics of their role. They need to understand that they're in a leadership position, and the organization that they're connected to should be ensuring that rules and understanding is in place," Harrison said

Meanwhile, Dover Area High School administrators say they are cooperating with police during the investigation, and offering counseling to students.

“Super Size Me” director Morgan Spurlock has stepped down from Warrior Poets, the New York-based production company he founded in 2004. The announcement came on Thursday, a day after he shared a confessional blog post admitting to his long history of sexual harassment.

“On behalf of Warrior Poets, (Hee-hee! "His gun's a pen.") we as partners have always supported our company and its endeavors. As of today, Morgan Spurlock will be stepping down effective immediately,” a spokeswoman for the company told The Washington Post in a statement on Thursday. No further explanation was offered.

Spurlock, who wrote that he “built a career on finding the truth,” (Oh, Margaret!) shared the detailed account of his misconduct stretching back to his college days in a post that he tweeted on Wednesday night with the note, “I am Part of the Problem.”

The message came just months after he sold his documentary “Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!” to YouTube Red for $3.5 million, according to Deadline. Spurlock also has a forthcoming docu-series titled “Cultureshock” on A&E, set to premiere in 2018.

“As I sit around watching hero after hero, (Who, asshole? Franken? Conyers? Clinton? Roy Moore? What a fuckhead.) man after man, (Ha! Your definition of "man" leaves quite a bit to be desired.) fall at the realization of their past indiscretions, I don’t sit by and wonder ‘who will be next?’ ” he began. “I wonder, ‘when will they come for me?’ ”

In the blog post, he chronicled his multiple infidelities, verbal sexual harassment in the workplace, battle with depression and decades-long struggle with alcohol abuse.

To support this statement, he offered several examples of his sexual misconduct throughout the post, always punctuating the harrowing stories with a variation on the phrase “I am part of the problem.”

The first instance he divulged took place in college, when he had a one-night sexual encounter with a girl that he thought was consensual but she later referred to as “rape.”

After a night of drinking, the two went back to his room and “began fooling around,” but she pushed him off her. Still clothed, the two laid in bed for a while laughing and joking. Before long they were “fooling around” again, though this time they took off their clothes.

The girl, whom Spurlock didn’t name, said she didn’t want to have sex, but they eventually did anyway. During intercourse, the girl began crying. The two stopped having sex, and Spurlock tried comforting her.

“I thought I was doing ok, I believed she was feeling better. She believed she was raped,” Spurlock wrote, adding, “That’s why I’m part of the problem.”

Spurlock next recounted the behavior that led to him settling a sexual harassment allegation with a former female assistant.

He would often yell at her from across the office, using diminutive nicknames like “hot pants” and “sex pants,” which he thought were funny but later realized had “completely demeaned and belittled her to a place of non-existence.”

When his assistant quit, she told Spurlock that he had to pay her to remain silent about his consistent verbal sexual harassment, the director wrote.

“I paid for peace of mind. I paid for her silence and cooperation. Most of all, I paid so I could remain who I was,” Spurlock wrote.

Calling himself “someone who consistently hurts those closest to me,” he wrote that “I have helped create a world of disrespect through my own actions.”

He concluded the post by promising to “do better,” to “be better.” To begin, he wrote, “I’m going to be more honest with you and myself.”

The post received mixed reactions, because, as Andrea Mandell wrote in USA Today, “His motive remains unclear: Is Spurlock purely trying to take responsibility for his actions? Get ahead of new allegations? Preserve his reputation as a documentarian? Reassure investors, like those at CBS and A&E?”

One Twitter user said it is “brave to come forward.” Another thanked him for his “honestly and bravery.”

Many didn’t feel like he deserved any praise, however.

“Morgan Spurlock is not brave, he’s trying to get ahead of the story and give you a reason so when you hear about how garbage he is, you think of the reason,” comedian Peter Coffin wrote on Twitter.
One user called him “opportunistic.” Another said that despite his post, “he’s still bad and I want him to go away.”

GOP lawmaker's 'I don't like men' comment stirs protest - Philly.com

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - An outspoken and conservative Pennsylvania state lawmaker has stirred calls to resign or be demoted after he interrupted a committee meeting to accost his Democratic counterpart for touching his arm and suggest the man might be gay.

Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf on Wednesday called Rep. Daryl Metcalfe's comments offensive and discriminatory, and said it is "part of a disturbing pattern of behavior."

Wolf is a dick.

Wolf does not think Metcalfe should chair a committee that has authority over legislation to expand gay and transgender rights, his spokesman said.

House Speaker Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny, declined to discuss the issue Wednesday. Turzai, who is running to challenge Wolf's re-election bid next year, declined to discuss the subject Wednesday.

The state Democratic Party called for Metcalfe to resign, while a gay and transgender rights group and a health care workers' labor union asked Turzai to strip Metcalfe of his committee chairmanship.

Metcalfe, R-Butler, chairs the State Government Committee, and his comments and committee meetings routinely stoke anger from Democrats. In Tuesday's meeting on a bill about landlocked easements and roads, Metcalfe interrupted Democratic Rep. Matt Bradford - seated next to him - after Bradford placed his hand on Metcalfe's forearm while speaking.

"Representative Bradford, look, I'm a heterosexual, I have a wife, I love my wife, I don't like men, as you might, but stop touching me all the time," Metcalfe said. "It's like, keep your hands to yourself. Like, if you want to touch somebody, you have people on your side of the aisle that might like it, I don't."

A visibly stunned Bradford laughed and said the meeting was "officially off the rails."

"My intent was just to beg for your permission for about 30 seconds," Bradford said.

"Then beg," Metcalfe responded, "don't touch."

Bradford - who has a wife and four children - later said he had simply sought to stop Metcalfe from interrupting him.

"The chairman can be volatile," Bradford, D-Montgomery, said. "I have strong views of my own, but I don't think that's an excuse to go into a diatribe. ... It's not isolated, it's not a singular incident, it's not because someone touched his arm."

Metcalfe told The Philadelphia Inquirer that Bradford, for months, has been continually touching him and that he has asked him to stop.

"If someone touches another person, and they say, 'stop touching me,' and they don't stop, that's serious business," Metcalfe told the Inquirer.

Metcalfe's committee meetings often erupt in rancor.

In one incident, Metcalfe pressed legislation to make English the official language of Pennsylvania and invited someone he identified as a "white nationalist" to testify in favor of it. He has pressed immigration legislation to stem what he called the "illegal alien invasion" and clashed several times with an openly gay lawmaker.

Bottled up in his committee is legislation banning discrimination based on gender identity or sexual orientation in employment, housing and public services.

It sure sounds like Conyers-Franken-Weinstein's Syndrome to me.

Methodist court ruling a blow for openly lesbian bishop - Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — The first openly lesbian bishop in the United Methodist Church can stay on the job for now, but she is subject to a disciplinary review that could lead to her removal, the top church court ruled Friday.

Bishop Karen Oliveto's civil marriage to another woman violates church law that bars clergy who are "self-avowed practicing homosexuals," the Judicial Council said. However, a decision over whether she can remain in the position must come from a separate disciplinary process, the court ruled.

The text of the opinion was not immediately released, but a summary of the findings was published by the United Methodist News Service.

Oliveto was elected last year to lead a Denver-area church region that is part of the Methodist Western Jurisdiction, which has rejected the denomination's position that "the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching." Within minutes of her election, a challenge was filed by the Oklahoma-based South Central Jurisdiction, leading to Friday's ruling.

The case is the latest chapter in an intensifying fight over LGBT recognition that is fracturing the 12.8 million-member denomination — the third-largest faith group in the U.S. Earlier this week, bishops announced a special 2019 meeting of its top legislative body, or General Conference, expressly to address church law on sexuality and find ways the denomination can avoid schism.

LGBT advocates in the church have stepped up pressure to lift prohibitions on gay clergy. Bishops have conducted same-sex weddings in defiance of church policy and dozens of LGBT clergy have come out, risking being defrocked. Evangelical Methodists, who have gained strength in the denomination in part through growth of Methodist churches overseas, have responded by pushing to enforce church policies. The court said Friday that bishops who consecrate an openly gay bishop were considered in violation of Methodist law and also subject to church discipline.

The top Methodist policy making body, or General Conference, has upheld the church's stand on same-sex relationships since 1972, even as other mainline Protestant groups, including the Episcopal Church and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), have approved same-sex marriage. In recent years, Methodists have seen their greatest growth overseas, especially in Africa, where theologically conservative views of marriage prevail.

The ruling Friday was made on a 6-3 vote. Bishop Bruce Ough, president of the Methodist Council of Bishops, said the decision would not ease "the disagreements, impatience and anxiety" in the church, but he appealed to church members to stay unified.

But many on social media believe the “Late Show” host went too far Monday night in making an oral-sex joke regarding Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

#FireColbert was trending on Twitter Wednesday morning. There’s a new Twitter account called @firecolbert. Its first tweet: “It’s time to #FireColbert! It’s time he be removed from CBS. Let your voice be heard! #Boycott all of Stephen Colbert’s advertisers.” There’s also a new website, firecolbert.com.

The anger from Trump supporters was over a series of jokes that Colbert unloaded in the last two minutes of his monologue on Monday night in reaction to how the president dealt with CBS News political director John Dickerson.

Texas Man Arrested for Having Sex With a Chain-Link Fence | ConradSeitz.com ...


A thirty-two year old Texas man was witnessed on March 1 by his neighbor having sexual intercourse with the chain-link fence between their lawns.  Apparently, the man was intoxicated; when he saw that his neighbor noticed him urinating on the fence, he disrobed and used his erect penis to violate an aperture in the fence.  She called the police, who arrested him for indecent exposure (a misdemeanor, for which he was released on his own recognizance.)  The woman who witnessed this act of love (bestiality?) is said to have requested that her eyes be washed out with soap (just kidding).  See the arrest document at “The Smoking Gun” here; they called it “an illicit tryst” with a fence.

If this guy isn't careful, he's going to get his own reality show...or elected to public office.

One more: Anthony Weiner wishes he had thought of that. Of course, he would have used an underage fence.

You kiddies may have noticed I have been including more non-Euclidean sex stories here in my idiot blog lately. Let me tell you why.

I am old and tired, kids. I am cynical, bored, disillusioned, jaded, and ill. But most of all, I am pissed off.

I don't have many friends who enjoy the company of other men, but that doesn't mean I never have. {In case you are wondering, no lesbian friends at all. They are just mean...KIDDING! I kid because I care.} I have seen too many of them self-destruct mentally and physically. I can't stand the heartache inherent in caring for someone who can't or won't see that his passions are destroying him. So I avoid getting to know homosexuals not because I hate them, but because it is too painful... and it REALLY pisses me off!

BTW, the use of the word "gay" in this context has gone way beyond ironic. It can only be described as cruel now.


The author of the article below, Mr. David-Elijah Nahmod, and I have little in common except that which is most important: our shared humanity.

Despite the horrors inflicted upon him by others he thinks are just like him and should be his friends and allies, he clings to the notion that there is some sort of "community" to which he and they belong merely because they generally have the same attitude toward their respective genitals. [And specifically, in the case of his ex.].

Mr. Nahmod, no such community exists. Nor has it ever existed. You and every other poor soul - heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or undecided - who conflates and equates orgasms with love are doomed to lives of noisy desperation, despair, depression, and futile, meaningless death. Suicide in the LGBT Community, What's Driving So Many to Such Despair...


In December 2010, I came within 48 hours of committing suicide. At the time I was 54 years old. I had never before considered taking my life, but as 2010 drew to a close, I felt like I had nothing to live for.

My cat literally saved me. I've had Charlie, my then 12-year-old feline companion, his whole life. I was all he knew. He trusted me. If I was going to leave him behind, I felt that I should at least find another loving home for him. I couldn't just drop him off at a shelter, where he would no doubt be put down.

An ad on Craigslist offering Charlie up for adoption produced not a single response. And so I put off my pending suicide for Charlie's sake. A few weeks later, the desire to end my life passed. As I sit here, telling this sad tale, Charlie lies by my side, sleeping and purring peacefully. All is well in his world. Even though I no longer wish to die, my world has never felt right again.

Since 2010, I've read numerous accounts, in both the LGBT and mainstream media, which tell me that many others within the LGBT sphere are feeling the kind of hopeless despair that nearly killed me. We're all aware of the escalating levels of suicide among LGBT youth. Bullying, both online and off, appears to be the driving force behind these tragic losses. But it's not just kids.

On March 12, 2013, gay porn king Michael Lucas published “An Open Letter to the Gay Porn Industry.” Lucas' piece was seen in Adult Video News, an industry trade publication. In the heartfelt letter, Lucas calls upon the industry to offer emotional support systems for gay adult models. Lucas walked the walk: he published his email address and let it be known that any performers who were suffering from depression could reach out to him.

Lucas was inspired to take this stand by the recent suicide of his friend and former colleague Wilfred Knight--Knight's partner had himself committed suicide only two weeks earlier. The previous month, gay porn models Roman Ragazzi and Arpad Miklos had taken their own lives.

At about this time, Lucas made a shocking revelation on his Facebook page: 20 members of his gym, not one of whom worked in gay porn, had also committed suicide.

In an era when LGBT people are enjoying more visibility and acceptance than at any time in U.S. history, what could possibly be driving this horrifying epidemic?

In my own case, the answer is simple, yet profoundly disturbing. I was raised in an Orthodox Jewish household in an ultra-conservative, virulently homophobic community. My sexuality became apparent at a very young age. On the advice of a Rabbi, my parents put me in a mental hospital when I was 8 years old. I was kept heavily medicated. I was also fed a heavy dose of Bible quotes during "therapy." This, in essence, is the story of my childhood. I came out of the experience deeply wounded and scarred. I have since been diagnosed with PTSD--Post Traumatic Stress Disorder--for which now I take medication.

Decades later, in 2005, my now former partner found "the Lord." He left me to live with Kathryn and Stephen Polich, a conservative, Christian identified couple in Surprise, Arizona. In 2007, for no reason at all, Mr. and Mrs. Polich took out a restraining order against me, then proceeded to harass me while the order was in effect. Their actions included sending me emails with phrases like "you emasculated Jewish bitch" and "you ignorant Zionist fool."  They also subjected me to publicly posted jokes about mental illness, comments regarding the "disgusting homosexual acts" I indulge in, and accusations of pedophilia.

I contacted Judge Gerald Williams of the North Valley Justice Court in Surprise, to inform him of Mr. and Mrs. Polich's behavior. Judge Williams, who had granted them the Order of Protection, assured me that he would do nothing about this. I then turned to gay activists, and gay advocacy groups, and requested help.

The response I got was universal: "Ha ha. You're boyfriend doesn't love you anymore. Get over it." Everywhere I turned in the gay community I was either ignored or laughed at. In 2008, I was subjected to two lurid stories in the Phoenix New Times regarding my situation. In the stories, I was referred to as "delusional." I was subjected to further snarky innuendos about mental illness. Niki D'Andrea, the author of both stories, also made an issue out of my being Jewish, which I had never mentioned to her when she contacted me and requested an interview. I asked D'Andrea why she had done this. She had, after all, seen some of Mrs. Polich's postings about me.

"My editor and I agreed to ignore your documentation," D'Andrea told me. "But I'm an out lesbian, which makes it OK." A quick Google search informed me that D'Andrea has a long history of such conduct.

In December 2010, the harassment from Kathryn and Stephen Polich continued to escalate. The Surprise police finally stepped in to assist me. Thanks to the kind intervention of Surprise police officer Officer Michael King, Mr. and Mrs. Polich ended their reign of terror against me. Through it all, gay activists and writers continued to either ignore or laugh at me. My PTSD symptoms, which had been dormant for a number of years, returned, and I had to go back on a medication regimen.
It was the combination of all that hate and abuse, from the gay and anti-gay alike, that left me wanting to kill myself. Neither one nor the other was powerful enough to by themselves drive me to that state. It was the combination of both.

To this day, I've been unable to find a single gay activist who will tell me that they're sorry I was so horribly treated. I've told my story to literally hundreds of gay activists, all of whom know about my close brush with suicide. In August 2012, Times of Israel Magazine published “A Gay Jewish Man Learns That Hate Can Come From the Most Unexpected Places,” in which I shared a more detailed version of my story. Yet not one of the activists who claim to be fighting for our equality, or purport to be saving us from suicide, will offer me a kind word.

I am not alone in this experience. On April 4, SFGN courageously published “Bullying Is Not a Gay Right,” my expose on gay activist Kevin Patrick O'Neil, who has a history of bullying and threatening other LGBT people.

I've shared the O'Neil story with the LGBT activist community. This included showing them actual threatening emails that O'Neil sent to Rinna Hoffman, a young lesbian suicide attempt survivor. As with my own story, I showed Hoffman's emails to hundreds upon hundreds of people. Again I was ignored.

Those who saw Rinna's emails include Scott Rose, a gay blogger who's been published by Huffington Post and The New Civil Rights Movement. In a series of Facebook messages dated February 5, 2012, Rose expressed his support for the manner in which Hoffman was treated by O'Neil.

Hoffman's emails were also seen by Laura McGinnis of The Trevor Project, an LGBT youth suicide prevention organization. McGinnis told me she would offer a statement "if I can find the time", she said. She never found the time.

Gay blog sites such as Addicting Info and Taboo Jive publicly declared O'Neil to be a hero; they also saw the emails O'Neil sent to Hoffman.

What does it say about us as a community when a victim of anti-gay bias can be ridiculed, and a young suicide survivor can be threatened? What does it say about our movement when absolutely no one will come forward to right these terrible wrongs?

There's a great deal of validity to the argument that we're a psychologically damaged people. Centuries of hate have turned us into haters.

At some point we have to own up to what all that hate has turned us into. In “Bullying Is Not a Gay Right” I stated that our kids were killing themselves in record numbers. We've been failing them, I pointed out.

But now we see that it's not just kids who are dying. How many funerals must there be before we hold our leaders, and ourselves, accountable?

Please pray for Mr. Nahmod, kiddies, and all others like him who define themselves by what they do with their sexual organs. Remember, Hugh Hefner and Barney Frank are basically the same.

Unprotected Sex Without Disclosing HIV-Positive Status Would No Longer Be A Felony...

A group of California lawmakers have proposed legislation that would make it no longer a felony for an HIV-positive individual to knowingly expose others to the disease by not disclosing their HIV status and engaging in unprotected sex.

The new legislation would make such acts a misdemeanor. The measure was written by state Senator Scott Weiner (D-San Francisco) with Assemblywoman Susan Eggman (D-Stockton) and Assemblymen Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) and David Chiu (D-San Francisco).


The Los Angeles Times reports:

“HIV-related stigma is one of our main obstacles to reducing and ultimately eliminating infections,” Wiener said. “When you criminalize HIV or stigmatize people who have HIV it encourages people not to get tested, to stay in the shadows, not to be open about their status, not to seek treatment.”

Legislators who support the measure say medicine has made the current law unfair.
“These laws are absolutely discriminatory. No other serious infectious disease is treated this way. HIV was signaled out,” said Wiener, who wrote the legislation with Assemblywoman Susan Eggman (D-Stockton) and Assemblymen Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) and David Chiu (D-San Francisco).

They noted that someone can be charged with a felony even if the medicine they are taking makes them virally suppressed, which means it is unlikely they would pass the infection to another person.

“Current state law related to those living with HIV is unfair because it is based on the fear and ignorance of a bygone era,” Gloria said. “With this legislation, California takes an important step to update our laws to reflect the medical advances which no longer make a positive diagnosis equal to a death sentence."

The proposed legislation also has its opponents.

Opponents of the bill, including state Sen. Jeff Stone (R-Murrieta), say knowingly exposing others to a life-altering disease should remain a felony.

“HIV/AIDS remains a deadly disease,” Stone, a pharmacist, said in a statement. “Existing law provides accountability of those engaging in unprotected, risky behavior that endangers the life of another.”

Sen. Joel Anderson (R-San Diego) said the availability of medicines that can prolong life does not change the major impact an HIV-positive diagnosis has on a person’s life.

“While we have come a long way with AIDS, you still have to take drugs for the rest of your life. You still have to bear the burden of the costs of the health care,” Anderson said. “I get that this is the only disease that is treated that way, but I think any disease that you inflict on somebody against their will that permanently changes them should be a felony.”

Anderson said he would be willing to address the discrimination issue by adding other diseases to the list whose intentional spreading is a felony.

Hep C, anyone? If you share a dirty needle, you go to jail. At least you would be less likely to infect another.

He challenged the argument that the law change is needed because otherwise some people will not get tested and will continue spreading the disease.

“Because they are so disrespectful of the people they are willing to engage in a sexual act with and risk their life, that is the reason why they need to go to prison,” Anderson said. “They can’t be trusted in society as a responsible person.”

Be sure to screen patients for depression and other mental health issues. ƒ

Explore the social support network of patients—one’s level of identification with community strongly correlates with decreased risk for STDs and improved mental health

o Increased stress levels can translate into increase in tobacco, alcohol or drug use.

  o Ask all patients about intimate partner violence (IPV)

o Be knowledgeable about safer sex practices as they relate to LGBT individuals, also be able to answer questions about STD transmission rates which differ based on various sexual practices.

o Do not assume lesbian patients have never had male sexual partners, are not at risk for STDs or do not have children. Do not make similar assumptions for other LGBT individuals.  In short, do not make assumptions about past, current, and future sexual behavior.

o The CDC recommends that men who have sex with men be vaccinated against hepatitis A and B and receive yearly syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and HIV screening.  ƒ In addition gay and bisexual men may be at increased risk for anal cancer which is associated with HPV infection.

o Not all transsexual individuals have the means to undergo gender reassignment, an expensive process. 

ƒ Ask about hormone use, which has been prescribed or obtained on the black market. ƒ Ask about procedures that may have been completed as part of gender transformation.

o Use respectful language—listen to your patients and how they describe their own sexual orientation, partners, and relationships o Circulate these guidelines to all administrative, nursing, clinical staff...

From seniors to youth, our LGBTQ community faces persistent challenges. For example,

LGBTQ older adults are less likely than heterosexual elders to have children to look after them as they age – and they’re more likely to live alone.

And according to our TRENDS Report,

LGBTQ high schoolers report higher rates of dating violence, including sexual assault, than their straight peers.

In addition, LGBTQ youth are bullied to a much greater degree (30%) than heterosexual teens (17%), and are significantly more likely to contemplate and attempt suicide.

In response, the Open Door Fund, a permanent endowment of the Community Foundation, aims to support the strengths and needs of the LGBTQ population throughout the county in three ways: by building community, by facilitating collaboration and dialogue between our LGBTQ community and the county, and through fundraising and grantmaking.
