President Stain wandered away from the home the other day and wound up in front of a bunch of rich Democrass fatcats in Colorado. The Denver Post tries to translate with a straight face.
Bill Clinton: Republicans crossing over
He thinks Lee Greenwood is now Top Ten on the Latin charts.
Former President Bill Clinton campaigned Wednesday for congressional candidate Ed Perlmutter, saying the Republican Party controlling Washington was beholden to ideologues and special interests.
Clinton said that as he stumps in 29 states across the nation, he is finding Republicans who have never considered voting for Democrats switching over.
"Our party has essentially become the home of both the traditional progressive and conservative strands of American political life, and I've never seen anything like it," Clinton told about 350 Democratic Party faithful during a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Cherry Creek. "And that's because the Republicans who control Washington are not the Republicans in your backyard."
Eek! I've got a Repansycan infestation in my backyard!
He said, "It is the narrowest, most extreme, most ideological strip of the Republican Party that has controlled both the White House and the Congress for six years."
The visit by Clinton drew an immediate response from both the Colorado Republican Party and the campaign of Perlmutter's opponent in the 7th Congressional District, Rick O'Donnell.
"It's funny that Bill Clinton would say that Republicans are beholden to an ideological vision when he's beholden to polling and focus groups," said Bryant Adams, communications director for the Colorado Republican Party. "I would rather be beholden to sound conservative policies than twisting in the wind every day."
O'Donnell's spokesman, Jonathan Tee, also labeled Perlmutter as hypocritical for holding the fundraising event in a tony Cherry Creek hotel when Perl mutter has campaigned on shifting the focus to the middle class.
Heehee!
"While lunching at the $1,000-per-plate event in Cherry Creek, did Ed and Bill discuss ways that Ed can change the focus from the wealthiest 1 percent to the hardworking people in the middle?" Tee asked.
(Thanks again to Laura Ingraham who is on fire today!)
