Frantisek Perina, Requiescat in pace.


CeskeNoviny.cz: Frantisek Perina, famous WW2 pilot, dies

Prague- Frantisek Perina, legendary Czech World War Two pilot, died today, aged 95, a reliable source has told CTK.

Perina, nicknamed "general of the sky" for the number of enemy fighters shot down, became famous mainly in 1940-1942 during the battles of France and England.

Perina was one of the most famous Czech pilot Aces. He brought down at least 12 German aircraft during World War Two. He was shot down over Paris himself and seriously injured.

After the communists seized power in then Czechoslovakia in 1948, Perina was dismissed from the military and he emigrated to the USA. He returned home only after the late 1989 collapse of the communist regime.

Perina received a number of awards for his achievements, for example the Czechoslovak Cross of War, the Order of the White Lion and several foreign awards.

Perina's health deteriorated a few weeks ago. On April 21, he was taken to Prague's Central Military Hospital where he deceased this morning. His wife, Anna Perinova-Klimesova, died several days before he was hospitalised.
