The solons who rule over us from Harrisburg might be sensing the peasants are unhappy.

But, as always, kiddies - don't hold your breath.

Senate Republicans are considering legislation to repeal a midterm pay raise that provoked a public backlash, and their leaders have advised Democrats to prepare for a vote as early as today.

Republican senators discussed the idea at length during a closed-door meeting Monday.

State Sen. Noah W. Wenger of Stevens, the majority caucus leader, confirmed a vote is likely today.

"Details are not yet defined, but there will be a bill put out on the floor that will be open to amendment, and one of those amendments will be to repeal the unvouchered expenses," Wenger said.

"There may be other amendments, too."

The legislation, which was being drafted so it could be amended into an existing bill, would call for repealing the "unvouchered expenses" portion of the pay-raise law.

In an early-morning vote July 7, legislators approved the monthly unvouchered expenses, circumventing a constitutional ban on accepting a raise during the term in which it is approved.
