The Daily News: Gergely cheers Rendell's veto of voting bill
A bill introduced by state Rep. Marc Gergely, D-White Oak, has been vetoed by Gov. Ed Rendell, and Gergely was on hand to cheer him on. Rendell went to Philadelphia and then to Pittsburgh's Hill House to announce his veto of House Bill 1318 in Presidents Day events.

As amended, H.B. 1318 became a "Christmas tree" for a variety of "ornaments." One required voters to bring photo identification to polls.

Rendell called that "ornament" a violation of the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. He said it could disenfranchise those living in nursing homes, displaced family members, and others who may not have government-issued identification.

"It places an unnecessary new burden on electors that will result in some losing their right to vote," Rendell said.

"And the dead shall rise uppa!"
