...or, one of the things wrong with the Catholic Church in the US.
One of an occasional series.
There was nothing wrong with the word "psychology" until Freud, et al. got their bloody little paws on it. But since then, the Catholic Church has shied away from it, leaving the intellectual battlefield to the totalitarians and the perverts.
From the exile of the Tridentine Mass and Latin, to the hideous new church architecture, removing the altar rails, turning the altars around, the near oblivion of the Sacrament of Penance, receiving the Blessed Sacrament in one's hand while standing and receiving the Precious Blood at every Mass, to the Hee-Haw music and earth-worship lyrics, the "Eucharistic Ministers" and altar girls, to the shunting of the Tabernacle off to some side "chapel" as if the Body of Christ were some crazy uncle we have to hide in the attic so we aren't ashamed when we face of our Protestant neighbors, to clapping after every baptism and wedding anniversary announcement, to the Moonie-like confirmation ceremony of 3,000 kids in a hockey arena (This is a personal favorite of mine from the Diocese of Harrisburg, PA a few years ago.), the Catholic Church has forgotten there is indeed such a thing as the psychology of the laity, and all this foolishness is having an effect on American Catholics.
Don't the leaders of the Church realize all this is a major component of the loss of respect for the Church, Her Sacraments, and God Himself?
Or, do they know this all too well?
To be continued...
