It seems Pope Francis needs to brush up on his Tertullian!

It has been reported (in The ChristLast Media, I must note) that the current Pope does not like the phrase "lead us not into temptation...

"Let no freedom be allowed to novelty, because it is not fitting that any addition should be made to antiquity. Let not the clear faith and belief of our forefathers be fouled by any muddy admixture." -- Pope Sixtus III

The Michael and Cathryn Borden Memorial Book of the Day.*

Did you ever wonder what could drive a man to kill himself and take large numbers of innocent people with him?

Surprise! It is our old enemy disordered sexual desire!

The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11
by Lawrence Wright

Reviewed by William Tucker of The American Spectator:

You aren't going to find a better recounting of the events leading up to September 11th than The Looming Tower, journalist Lawrence Wright's meticulously reported account just published by Knopf.

Wright, who once taught at the American University in Cairo, has spent almost five years interviewing 600 principles -- more than half of them Muslims -- in pulling together his dramatic narrative. He carries the story all the way from the 1940s visit to America by Sayyid Qutb -- the prissy Egyptian exchange student who became the spiritual father of the Muslim Brotherhood -- to the frantic efforts of FBI antiterrorist John O'Neill trying to uncover the plot before being cashiered out of the Bureau and moving over to be head of security at the World Trade Center -- where he perished three weeks later.

What emerges from The Looming Tower is that we are not facing a clash of civilizations so much as a conflict with an educated segment of a civilization that produces some very weird, sexually disoriented men. Poverty has nothing to do with it. It is stunning to meet the al Qaeda roster -- one highly accomplished scholar after another with advanced degrees in chemistry, biology, medicine, engineering, a large percentage of them educated in the United States.

Ayam Al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden's peer in organizing world jihad, is typical -- a highly trained Egyptian doctor who was often providing sophisticated treatment to his hospital patients even as he plotted the overthrow of the Egyptian government. And of course there is bin Laden himself, the pampered child of Saudi Arabia's biggest builder who often bankrolled the Saudi royal family the way the Rothschilds used to bankroll European governments.

As Wright shrewdly observes:

What the recruits tended to have in common -- besides their urbanity, their cosmopolitan backgrounds, their education, their facility with languages, and their computer skills -- was displacement. Most who joined the jihad did so in a country other than the one in which they were reared....Like Sayyid Qutb, they defined themselves as radical Muslims while living in the West.... Alone, alienated, and often far from his family, the exile turned to the mosque, where he found companionship and the consolation of religion. Islam provided the element of commonality. It was more than a faith -- it was an identity.

All this conforms with the work of sociologist Will Herberg, who theorized in the 1960s that immigrants to America willingly shed their national languages and customs while regrouping around religion. What is different about Islam is that the mosques are so politically radicalized, usually under imams who are accustomed to contending with secular authorities for political power in their home countries.

As several people observe throughout the book, jihadists bear a striking resemblance to American student revolutionaries of the 1960s -- overprivileged children who sense they have been coddled and feel compelled to prove their manhood by embarking on apocalyptic ventures to remake the world. With Islam, all this is confounded by a polygamous society where fathers are often distant from their sons and where men and women barely encounter each other as young adults. As Wright observes of Mohammed Atta, the vanguard of the suicide brigade:

Physically, there was a feminine quality to his bearing: He was "elegant" and "delicate," so that his sexual orientation -- however unexpressed -- was difficult to read. . . Atta constantly demonstrated an aversion to women, who in his mind were like Jews in their powerfulness and corruption. [His] will states:
"No pregnant woman or disbelievers should walk in my funeral or ever visit my grave. No woman should ask forgiveness of me. Those who will wash my body should wear gloves so that they do not touch my genitals." The anger that this statement directs at women and its horror of sexual contact invites the thought
that Atta's turn to terror had as much to do with his own conflicted sexuality as it did with the clash of civilizations.

Beyond that, what glares through the pages of The Looming Tower (the title is taken from the Koran) is the ad hoc, improvisational way in which al Qaeda settled into its war against America. Al-Zawahiri, who contributed as much to the organization as bin Laden, was still dreaming of taking over Egypt in the late 1990s. With no colonial tradition, America often held a soft spot in the heart of early recruits. Even as they trained for war in Afghanistan, they were fond of watching Arnold Schwarzenegger movies.

In the end, however, the David-versus-Goliath imagery won out. As Wright observes, Osama bin Laden is much more a public relations specialist than a warrior. It was the image of a single man living in a cave in the remotest corner of the world bringing down two of the world's tallest buildings that eventually won Muslim hearts. Meanwhile, Bin Laden expected American society to collapse with the fall of the Twin Towers. So much for his understanding of the world.

And what about things on this side of the ocean? It is grueling to read about the missed opportunities, the forgotten phone calls, the wadded up memos thrown in the wastebasket that could have uncovered the plot. The failure of the CIA, the FBI and the National Security Administration to communicate with one another is dismaying.

Where Wright falls down is in his failure to analyze how this happened. "The Wall" erected between the FBI and CIA is mentioned but never illuminated. Completely missing from these pages are the names of Janet Reno and Jamie Gorelick, those Justice Department stalwarts who decided to erect The Wall even "beyond what the statute required." ABC-TV's efforts to cast a little aspersion this week on Madeleine Albright and Sandy Berger -- a stunning development in the history of television -- will pale to insignificance if the networks ever get around to telling the story of how Reno and Gorelick turned America into home base for terrorists by refusing to allow the CIA to inform the FBI when known conspirators arrived in this country.

Still, the ultimate message that emerges from Wright's brilliant recounting is that, while we face a long, long conflict against a civilization that literally wants to move backward in time, the situation is not completely hopeless. For one thing, American security is healed. Until and unless the Democrats get back in and mess it up again, we will probably not repeat the mistakes of the 1990s.

More important, our conflict with Islam is not a war against a whole civilization. The jihadists are despised as much in their own countries as they are in the West. Egyptians are sick to death of the Muslim Brotherhood and its casual slaughter. The war between Fundamentalists and secular authorities in Algeria cost 100,000 lives.

What we are at war with is a Muslim intelligentsia -- basically the same people who brought us the horrors of the French Revolution and 20th century Communism. With their obsession for moral purity and their rational hatred that goes beyond all irrationality, these "warrior-intellectuals" are wreaking the same havoc in the Middle East as they did in Jacobin France and Mao Tse-tung's China.

Western and Eastern societies eventually emerged from this reign of terror. Maybe Islamic societies can do the same.

Let us hope and pray they can achieve this without being slaughtered by the millions first...

Worried CIA Officers Buy Legal Insurance; Plans Fund Defense In Anti-Terror Cases

Washington's other newspaper details how the left-fascist AmericaLasters have hamstrung our warriors.

Of course, it is not phrased exactly that way...

CIA counterterrorism officers have signed up in growing numbers for a government-reimbursed, private insurance plan that would pay their civil judgments and legal expenses if they are sued or charged with criminal wrongdoing, according to current and former intelligence officials and others with knowledge of the program.

The new enrollments reflect heightened anxiety at the CIA that officers may be vulnerable to accusations they were involved in abuse, torture, human rights violations and other misconduct, including wrongdoing related to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. They worry that they will not have Justice Department representation in court or congressional inquiries, the officials said.

The anxieties stem partly from public controversy about a system of secret CIA prisons in which detainees were subjected to harsh interrogation methods, including temperature extremes and simulated drowning. The White House contends the methods were legal, but some CIA officers have worried privately that they may have violated international law or domestic criminal statutes.

Details of the rough interrogations could come to light if trials are held for any of the approximately 100 detainees who were held in the prisons. President Bush announced last week that he had transferred the last 14 detainees in the facilities to the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and had submitted a proposal to Congress for the rules under which the administration would like the suspects to be tried.

Terrorism suspects' defense attorneys are expected to argue that admissions made by their clients were illegally coerced as the result of policies set in Washington.

Justice Department political appointees have strongly backed the CIA interrogations. But "there are a lot of people who think that subpoenas could be coming" from Congress after the November elections or from federal prosecutors if Democrats capture the White House in 2008, said a retired senior intelligence officer who remains in contact with former colleagues in the agency's Directorate of Operations, which ran the secret prisons.

Saudi Arabia's religious police have issued a ban on the sale of dogs and cats in two cities, calling the pets a bad Western influence. The cat ban was seen as more puzzling, because Islamic tradition holds that the Prophet Muhammad loved cats.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty: U.K. NEWSPAPER ACCUSES IRAQIS OF TORTURE, DETAINEE ABUSE AT ABU GHRAIB

An independent witness who toured Abu Ghraib Prison last week told London's "The Sunday Telegraph" that detainees were neglected and abused by their Iraqi captors there, the newspaper reported on September 10. Iraqis took control of the prison last month (see "RFE/RL Newsline," August 30, 2006). The witness reported hearing screams coming from cell blocks that housed terrorist suspects, but said he was denied access to those areas. Prisoners told the witness in front of their jailers that they were afraid for their safety, and they said they were no longer being fed chicken and milk, and were only being fed rice and water. Detainees released from the facility over the past week said torture was routinely being carried out. One such detainee said conditions had worsened after the U.S. military handed the prison over to Iraqis. He added that local human rights workers tied to Shi'ite political parties have failed to support the detainees, and the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) no longer visits the facility. The ICRC confirmed it has not visited the prison since January 2005. Twenty-seven Iraqis were hanged in a mass execution at the prison on September 6, the newspaper reported.

DAMASCUS, Syria - Armed Islamic militants attempted to storm the U.S. Embassy in a brazen attack Tuesday, the government said. Four people were killed, including three of the assailants. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but an al-Qaida offshoot group was suspected, Syria's ambassador to the United States said.

From Washington's other newspaper comes news of a mohammedan fatjiwad aimed at stamping out gossip and/or Hollyweird celebrities:

Indonesia's largest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama, has issued a fatwa against reporting, watching, reading and spreading celebrity gossip.

"This fatwa will be issued because ulema are concerned gossip shows will destroy young people and because the Koran strictly forbids spreading gossip," the group's leader, Said Agil Siradj, said. There are some 40 infotainment shows on 11 stations in Jakarta, which are quite popular, the newspaper reported. Siradj said that the people who produce these shows are sinners and that the audience is made up of " 'gossip addicts,' who lap up juicy celebrity tidbits without bearing in mind the humiliation they cause." (TV executives said they would wait until the edict was officially issued before they considered programming changes. "We are going to examine the edict thoroughly and seriously, to find out which part is considered haram," said one.)

I knew it would be only a matter of time before jihad collided with the world of Ryan Seacrest et al. My infidelness (my infidelity? my infidelitude?) is helpfully pointed out to me all the time. One of Question Celebrity's e-mailers, in response to the July 30 Kathy Griffin column, suggested doing something extremely unpleasant and Taliban-like to me with Griffin's ex-husband's curling iron -- the same day the Indonesian clerics issued their ban. I can only respond to the fatwa with hurt feelings, typical Western-values disconnect and . . . a smidge of recognition. Indeed, Siradj's ravings against celebreculture sound much like every ninth or 10th e-mail I get here at Question Celebrity, from people who simply can't abide (or, apparently, avert) the column's ruminative, insipidly sinful obsessions on matters of fame and foible. Gossip doesn't only offend Islamic fundamentalists. It gets under the skin of Takoma Park liberals, suburban conservatives and uppity Washington wonks who insist there must be something more worthy for this space. It also aggravates my mother, who skips this column altogether. Gossip is a sin the world over. We'll all recognize one another, dodging rocks at the public stoning.

Michael Schumacher retires as the greatest Formula 1 driver ever...

...other than that, who really cares?

Roto-Reuters: Motor racing-Alonso launches scathing attack on Schumacher

Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso has launched a scathing attack on Michael Schumacher following the German driver's announcement that he will retire at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old Spaniard accused seven-times world champion Schumacher of being the most unsporting driver in the history of the sport.

He also compared Schumacher's departure unfavourably with that of French footballer Zinedine Zidane whose last act before retiring was to be sent off for headbutting Italian defender Marco Materazzi in the chest during the World Cup final.

"Zidane retired with more glory that Schumacher," Alonso was quoted as telling Radio Marca in Tuesday's edition of the Spanish sports daily.

"Michael is the most unsporting driver with the largest number of sanctions in the history of Formula One.

"That doesn't take away from the fact that he has been the best driver and it has been an honour and pleasure to battle against him.

"Everyone has their time and you have to respect his decision. Things will be more equal now."

Alonso also attacked what he saw as institutional bias in favour of Schumacher and his Ferrari team.

"In Formula One there are commercial and political interests," he said.

"We are talking about the most successful driver in history and a little bit of help has never gone amiss. Quite often they go over the line of what is acceptable and it is inexplicable."

The Old Gray Whore: It's a Simple Scarf, but Its Meaning Is Much More Than Faith

The spectacularly named Neil MacFarquhar "reports".

Everything seemed to be going well, recalled Dena al-Atassi, a young college student planning a career as a diet consultant, until her prospective boss caught sight of the head scarf she wears as a devout Muslim.

“She said something like, What the heck is that on your head?’’ Ms. Atassi said in an interview at a recent Muslim conference in Chicago. “I don’t remember the exact words, but I will always remember the derogatory tone.”

Ms. Atassi, 21, said she argued that her head scarf would not interfere with her work, that the fleshy women who flocked to the Maryland office of the Jenny Craig diet chain where she had been a trainee seemed to appreciate the fact that she dressed modestly and avoided flaunting her own slim figure.

But the supervisor in the Jenny Craig office in Florida where Ms. Atassi hoped to relocate last summer was not moved, she said, and the job never materialized.

“She wanted her office to look all-American,” recalled Ms. Atassi, who reported the incident to a prominent Muslim advocacy group at the time.

Norma Hubble, Jenny Craig’s vice president of operations, said the supervisor in the Florida office no longer worked for Jenny Craig but “to the company’s knowledge, neither Ms. Atassi’s religion nor her religious dress was a factor in any employment decisions affecting her.’’

Jenny Craig “has a policy of nondiscrimination on the basis of religion,’’ Ms. Hubble said in a statement, “and it complies with all federal and state laws regarding employee requests for religious dress accommodations.’’
Cozette Phifer, the spokeswoman for Jenny Craig, confirmed that some staff members wore head scarves.

Before Sept. 11, Muslim women who wore head scarves in the United States were often viewed as vaguely exotic. The terrorist attacks abruptly changed that, transforming the head scarf, for many people, into a symbol of something dangerous, and marking the women who wear them as among the most obvious targets for those who deem the faith threatening.

Ooooh! A scarf! We nativist reactionaries are so threatened!

Muslim leaders call discrimination a problem for many of the faithful, particularly for women like Ms. Atassi who wear head scarves and who say they face widespread discrimination in their careers and in their daily lives.

Born to a Syrian father from a prominent political clan and an American mother who converted from Christianity, Ms. Atassi said she was the only Muslim at Flagler-Palm Coast High School in Bunnell, Fla., a wealthy area in the northeastern part of the state. During a three-year stay in Syria as a teenager, she began taking private religion classes and, she said, noticed that veiled women showed a self-confidence lacking among American women, who seemed to her to be trying to transform themselves into a Barbie-doll ideal.

Whatever helps you sleep at night, baby.

“I would meet women who were not attractive by Western standards,’’ Ms. Atassi said, “and when I told them, ‘You look beautiful,’ they would say, ‘I know, thank God.’ They really believe it. The veil facilitates inner strength, a greater feeling of self-esteem.”

Look, wear your scarf for religious reasons. We don't really care. But please drop the psychobabble. It is unbecoming.

Ms. Atassi began wearing a head scarf, or hejab in Arabic, at age 16, along with a floor-length trench coat.

About a year later, in July 2002, she said, she was passing through the airport in Amsterdam on her first trip outside the Arab world after the Sept. 11 attacks, when the security screeners singled her out, questioned her and made her remove her coat. Feeling violated, she said, she tore off her scarf in a bathroom and wept.

“I had gained such a strong relationship with God that I didn’t want to do anything to distance myself from him, and I felt like I was doing just that,” she said.

The head scarf stayed off for eight months. But she said she felt like a hypocrite as, bareheaded, she waged a campaign against anti-Muslim stereotypes at the University of Central Florida, where she is chairwoman of the Florida chapter of the Muslim Students Association. After she began wearing a head scarf again, she said, death threats and other offensive telephone calls salted with expletives started the very next weekend.

Discriminating against people because of their religion is illegal in the United States. But it is difficult to prove, and many victims avoid even speaking about it publicly out of fear it may affect job prospects or bring other unwanted attention. Ms. Atassi said that her stepmother had removed her own head scarf after Sept. 11 and kept it off, afraid of her co-workers’ reaction. Ms. Atassi said she did not want to live that way.

“I made the decision when I put it back on that I will never take it off again,” she said.

Couldn't that lead to split ends?

Just in case you are wondering what exactly Catholics believe, here is

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that any one who fled to thy protection, implored thy help or sought thy intercession, was left unaided.Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins my Mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful; O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy clemency hear and answer me. Amen.

St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse, pray for us.

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me; Body of Christ, save me; Blood of Christ, inebriate me; Water from Christ's side, wash me; Passion of Christ, strengthen me; O good Jesus, hear me; Within Thy wounds hide me; Suffer me not to be separated from Thee; From the malicious enemy defend me; In the hour of my death call me; And bid me come unto Thee; That I may praise Thee with Thy saints and with Thy angels Forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer to St. Anthony, Martyr of Desire

Dear St. Anthony, you became a Franciscan with the hope of shedding your blood for Christ. In God's plan for you, your thirst for martyrdom was never to be satisfied. St. Anthony, Martyr of Desire, pray that I may become less afraid to stand up and be counted as a follower of the Lord Jesus. Intercede also for my other intentions. (Name them.)

Prayer To Saint Michael The Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the divine power, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Prayer to End Abortion

Lord God, I thank You today for the gift of my life, and for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the resurrection of Your Son. I am ready to do my part to end abortion. Today I commit myself never to be silent, never to be passive, and never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the pro-life movement, and never stop defending life until all my brothers and sisters are protected and our nation once again becomes a nation with liberty and justice, not just for some, but for all. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer For Vocations

Send forth your Spirit, Lord, into the hearts of your faithful people, that we may be conscious of our vocation to holiness and sevice to others. Grant that many of us may dedicate ourselves to You through the priesthood and the religious life.We pray especially for the needs of our own parish and diocese. Grant that we may always have sufficient good and holy priests, and dedicated Sisters to serve our commumities. We pray, too, for religious orders; that generous men may join them to become zealous missionaries in preaching the Gospel in word and action, especially to the poor and abandoned. We make this prayer through Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

Prayer Before The Crucifix

Behold, O kind and gentle Jesus, I kneel before Thee and pray that Thou would impress upon my heart the virtues of faith, hope, and charity, with true repentance for my sins and a firm purpose of amendment. At the same time, with sorrow I meditate on Thy five precious wounds, having in mind the words which David spoke in prophecy: "They have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones."

ABC 13: Strange story of servicewoman's disappearance

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan (AP) - A U.S. servicewoman who reappeared as mysteriously as she vanished gave confused accounts of her three-day absence and refused to make further statements after consulting with the U.S. Embassy, a Kyrgyz police official said Monday.

Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger, who had been stationed at the U.S. base in Manas, outside the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, disappeared Sept. 5 while on a shopping excursion in the city. She resurfaced Friday night when she knocked on the door of a house in Kant, about 15 miles outside Bishkek, and claimed she had been kidnapped.

Metzger was flown out of Kyrgyzstan within a few hours of her reappearance and was admitted Sunday to a U.S. military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. There was no immediate word on what she was being treated for or how long she would remain hospitalized; officials had previously said she did not appear to have suffered serious injury during her disappearance.

Kyrgyz authorities have said her swift departure could impede their investigation, because they wanted to question her further to clarify her account. According to investigators, Metzger said an object with a note saying it was a bomb was placed in her pocket in a Bishkek department store and that she was kidnapped after following the note's instructions on where to go.

"It seemed to me that her testimony was little believable; she was confused in her evidence," Batmirza Dzhailobayev, head of the Kant police department, told The Associated Press.

"After she spoke with somebody from the embassy, she categorically refused to give testimony. Then people from the U.S. Embassy took her away," he said.

Dzhailobayev noted that although Metzger had told police that her abductors had stolen her necklace, she was still wearing an expensive-looking wedding ring.

Also Monday, a resident of the house where Metzger appeared said that the 33-year-old major was clearly in distress.

"Our first impression was that the woman was severely drunk ... (but) there was no smell of alcohol and we then understood that she was in shock," Svetlana Ivashenko told the AP. She said that Metzger was dressed in clothes that appeared to be several sizes too large for her.

Ivashenko said Metzger spoke only in English, which neither she nor her husband understand, so they awoke their daughter to try to help understand.

"Who had seized her, why and were they had held her all this time, she couldn't clarify," Ivashenko said. "As she told all this, she didn't weep - she just sobbed and held her head."

Ivashenko said there was blood on Metzger's feet and that she said she had walked a considerable distance. She also said the right side of Metzger's face appeared to be badly bruised, although Dzhailobayev said "it was my impression that there were no bruises on her face."

Metzger was serving a four-month stint with the 376th Air Expeditionary Wing at Manas, where the U.S. military has maintained a base since 2001 to support operations in nearby Afghanistan. She had been scheduled to return Friday to her regular post at Moody Air Force Base, Ga.

Metzger phoned her parents in Henderson, N.C., early Saturday to let them know she was safe, The News & Observer newspaper of Raleigh reported.
Her parents said the call left questions about her disappearance, and they still did not know why she vanished, where she was during her ordeal, or how she got back.

"She kept saying, "I'm fine, I'm OK, I'm OK," her mother, Jeanette Metzger, told the newspaper.

John Metzger, a retired Air Force colonel, said his daughter seemed to be in shock.

"Her tone of voice at the beginning was kind of distant, I would say, and then all of a sudden, I heard the old Jill come back," he said.

Metzger was married to Air Force Capt. Joshua Mayo on April 8 and she was deployed 10 days later. The couple had been set to leave Sept. 24 for a delayed honeymoon, her father said.

The Michael and Cathryn Borden Memorial Book of the Day.*

Because few have actually read the darn thing...

The 9/11 Report: A Graphic Adaptation by Sid Jacobson & Ernie Colon

From AssociatedContent:

Unless you have fond memories of the now-defunct Harvey Comics - which chronicled the innocent adventures of “Casper the Friendly Ghost” and “Richie Rich” among others – the names Sid Jacobson and Ernie Colon may not mean anything to you. But respectively, these two comic book creators (Jacobson was editor in Chief at Harvey and Colon drew RR and Casper) have over 50 years of experience at Harvey Comics alone, not to mention their efforts with other book publishers including Marvel Comics (home of the X-Men) and DC Comics (home of Super-Man).

So the comic book industry in particular, and the book publishing industry in general raised an eye-brow when Jacobson and Colon recently wrote and illustrated a 144-page condensation of the 600-page federal report released by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.

9/11. Heavy subject matter to be sure and not the typical illustrated adventures you think of when you crack open a graphic novel or comic book. In this tome you won’t find any high-flying super-heroes, no spandex clad, muscle-bound defenders of peace and justice, no silicone-enhanced females bursting out of the skimpiest of costumes...

In North America the verdict is still out, although the book has garnered healthy reviews across the board, including glowing praise from the 9/11 Commission itself. (the 9/11 illustrated novel contains a forward by 2 members of the commission). Jacobson and Colon began their 9/11 project nearly 18 months ago, after Colon learned that the commission’s report was in the public domain and that several movie producers were considering basing films on it (NewsRama.com – Daily Comic Book News, 25 August).

Commented Colon:

“…I was reading an article in The New York Times that said that Ron Howard and his partner [Brian Grazer] were contemplating doing a film based on the 9/11 Commission Report. One of the reasons they were contemplating it was because it was very feasible since it was public domain. Coincidentally, I had just tried to read the report and found it very difficult because I couldn’t keep track of all the names, places and events. Sid Jacobson and I are in the business of clarifying things, so I called him up, he thought it was a great idea and we took off from there...”

The rest as they say is history. Using many techniques familiar to readers of comic books and graphic novels such as sans-serif captions and dramatic bold-faced sound effects, Jacobson and Colon harnessed the same tricks of the trade in illustrating and writing the adventures of Spiderman and the Green Lantern in the hope their effort will attract new readers to the report who may have been overwhelmed the first time they attempted to read it.

Interesting enough, neither Jacobson nor Colon refers to their effort as a “Graphic Novel” rather they call their work an example of “graphic journalism”.

Even after being sanitized by the infernal minions of King Goober II, the commissions's report still reminds us of the depredations of his regime. And "graphic journalism" is a heck of a lot easier to read than a political commission's obfuscations.

THE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY of the Sept. 11 attacks is a day of remembrance and special sadness for the nation, and all those who knew any of the 2,973 victims. Yet in the long run, the reaction of the Bush administration may prove more harmful to the national interest than even these horrific attacks. In speeches over the last two weeks, Bush has painted the attack as a battle in "the decisive ideological struggle of the 21st century." And he said of Al Qaeda, the jihadist group that organized the attack: "They're successors to fascists, to Nazis, to communists."

The attacks were fiendishly clever, taking advantage of the overconfidence of Americans in the security of their borders and the failure of the FBI and CIA to share intelligence. Yet Al Qaeda lacks the military and economic power of a nation-state to mount a sustained series of attacks. And its ideology is a throwback to medieval times when the Muslim caliphate ruled the Middle East. Its belief system does not offer the illusions of modernity that drew people to Nazism or communism.

That there is a eurocentric, whitebread lie! Goat rape is quite appealing to people who are still living in the 12th century.

Al Qaeda's appeal to many Muslims has more to do with the perception that the United States has become an oppressor than with the particulars of the group's intolerant worldview. This ideological battle is like a judo match in which Al Qaeda turns abuses of power by the United States against its stronger adversary. US leaders should be wise enough not to play this game.

Ack! Britney Spears videos make me want to kill innocents!

After the attack, to be sure, the administration deftly handled the campaign to topple the Taliban government in Afghanistan and expel Al Qaeda from its base there. But then Bush and his lieutenants allowed Osama bin Laden and other Al Qaeda leaders to escape into Pakistan. The administration has been overreacting ever since.

Oy vey!

The Bush administration decided to put the bulk of the people captured in Afghanistan -- Al Qaeda agents and those caught up in the fighting -- into prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where they were denied the rights of prisoners of war. (Dumbass AmericaLasters willfully ignore the war in which we find ourselves. - F.G.) The few high-ranking captives were consigned to secret prisons outside the United States where they were subjected to abusive interrogations. Bush announced last week that these prisons had been closed and the inmates moved to Guantanamo Bay. But the damage has been done. Many Muslims look at the United States as a jailer and torturer.

Once the Taliban had been routed, Bush turned to Iraq. A few days ago he defended his decision to invade the country and oust Saddam Hussein, who, the president asserted, "harbored terrorists, fired at military planes, paid the families of Palestinian suicide bombers, invaded neighbors, and pursued and used weapons of mass destruction." Saddam was a tyrant, but the president was conflating the dictator's 25-year record of crimes into a single snapshot. By 2003, the year of the invasion, Saddam was confined to oppressing his own people and was doing nothing to promote terrorist attacks on the United States. The long war against the insurgency in Iraq has further inflamed Mideast opinion against the United States without enhancing US security.

Welcome, reasonable mohammedans!

The Seattle Times: Muslim immigration has bounced back

The events of Sept. 11 transformed life for Muslims in the United States, and the flow of immigrants from countries such as Egypt, Pakistan and Morocco thinned drastically.

But five years later, as the United States wrestles with questions of terrorism, civil liberties and immigration control, Muslims appear to be moving here again in surprising numbers, according to statistics compiled by the Department of Homeland Security and the Census Bureau.

Immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East, North Africa and Asia are planting new roots in states from Virginia to Texas to California.

In 2005, more people from Muslim countries became legal permanent U.S. residents — nearly 96,000 — than in any year in the previous two decades.
More than 40,000 of them were admitted last year, the highest annual number since the terrorist attacks, according to data on 22 countries provided by the Department of Homeland Security.

Many have made the journey unbowed by tales of immigrant hardship, and despite their own opposition to U.S. policy in the Middle East. They come seeking the same promise that has drawn foreigners to the U.S. for many decades, according to a range of experts and immigrants: economic opportunity and political freedom.

Those lures, both powerful and familiar, have been enough to conquer fears that America is an inhospitable place for Muslims.

Tell all your reasonable relatives with marketable job skills, too.

"America has always been the promised land for Muslims and non-Muslims," said Behzad Yaghmaian, an Iranian exile and author of "Embracing the Infidel: Stories of Muslim Migrants on the Journey West."

"Despite Muslims' opposition to America's foreign policy, they still come here because the United States offers what they're missing at home."

If they pay attention once they get here and they are smart enough to avoid The Party of Blasphemy, Buggery, and 'Bortion, they will soon love our foreign policy as much as they love blue jeans and Fox News.

Muslims have been settling in the United States in significant numbers since the mid-1960s, after immigration quotas that favored Eastern Europeans were lifted. Spacious mosques opened in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York as a new, highly educated Muslim population took hold.

Over the next three decades, the story of Muslim migration to the United States was marked by growth and prosperity. A larger percentage of immigrants from Muslim countries have graduate degrees than other American residents, and their average salary is about 20 percent higher, according to Census Bureau data.

But Sept. 11 altered the course of Muslim life in America. Mosques were vandalized. Hate crimes rose. Thousands of men were placed into deportation proceedings, and others were arrested in an array of terrorism cases.

Yeah, and don't forget all those dirty looks they got.

Some Muslims changed their names to avoid job discrimination, making Mohammed "Moe," and Osama "Sam." Scores of families left for Canada or returned to their native countries.

That's why we haven't caught him yet! Somebody tell the CIA to check the White Pages for a Sam Bin Goatrape.

Yet this period also produced something strikingly positive, in the eyes of many Muslims: They began to mobilize politically and socially. Across the country, grass-roots organizations expanded to educate Muslims on civil rights, register them to vote and lobby against new federal policies such as the Patriot Act.

"There was the option of becoming introverted or extroverted," said Agha Saeed, national chairman of the American Muslim Task Force on Civil Rights and Elections, an umbrella organization in Newark, Calif., created in 2003. "We became extroverted."

In some ways, new Muslim immigrants may be better off in the post-9/11 America they encounter today, say Muslim leaders and academics: Islamic centers are more organized and resources, such as English instruction and free legal assistance, more accessible.

But outside these newly organized mosques, life remains strained for many Muslims.

To avoid taunts, women are often warned not to wear headscarves in public. Muslims continue to endure long waits at airports, where they are often tagged for questioning because of their names or dress.

The funny thing is, mohammedans also die when their planes are blown up by the goat rapists. Someone should explain that to the "leaders" of the mohammedan-Americans.

To some longtime immigrants, the life embraced by newcomers will never compare to the peaceful era that came before.

Up to 6 million Muslims live in the United States, by some estimates.

Is that after you subtract the tens of thousands we wild-eyed nativist Crusaders slaughtered in the great anti-mohammedan pograms of '01?

While the Census Bureau and the Department of Homeland Security do not track religion, both provide statistics on immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries. It is presumed that many of these immigrants are Muslim, but people of other faiths, such as Iraqi Chaldeans and Egyptian Copts, also have come in appreciable numbers.

Immigration from these regions slowed considerably after Sept. 11. Fewer people were issued green cards and nonimmigrant visas. By 2003, the number of immigrants arriving from 22 Muslim countries had declined by more than a third. For students, tourists and others from these countries who were designated as nonimmigrants, the drop was even more drastic, with total visits down by nearly half.

The falloff affected immigrants from across the post-9/11 world as America tightened its borders, but it was most pronounced among those moving here from Pakistan, Morocco, Iran and other Muslim nations.

Several factors might explain the drop: a higher number of visa applications were rejected because of heightened security procedures, said officials at the State Department and Department of Homeland Security; and fewer people applied for visas.

But starting in 2004, the numbers rebounded. The tally of people coming to live in the United States from Bangladesh, Turkey, Algeria and other Muslim countries rose by 20 percent, according to an analysis of Census Bureau data.

The increase also was notable among foreigners with nonimmigrant visas. More than 55,000 Indonesians, for instance, were issued those visas last year, compared with roughly 36,000 in 2002.

The rise does not reflect relaxed security measures, but a higher number of visa applications and greater efficiency in processing them, said Chris Bentley, a spokesman for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, part of Homeland Security.

Like other immigrants, Muslims find their way to the United States in myriad ways: they come as refugees, or as students and tourists who sometimes overstay their welcome. Others arrive with immigrant visas secured by relatives here. A lucky few win the green-card lottery.

Nur Fatima, a Pakistani woman who moved to Brooklyn six months ago and promptly shed her hijab, arrived at a propitious time. Had she come three years earlier, she would have seen a neighborhood in crisis.

You go girl! (sorry)

Hundreds of Pakistani immigrants disappeared after being asked to register with the government. Thirty shops closed along a stretch of Coney Island Avenue known as Little Pakistan. The number of new Urdu-speaking students at the local elementary school, Public School 217, dropped by half in the 2002-03 school year, according to the New York City Department of Education.

But then Little Pakistan got organized. A local businessman, Moe Razvi, converted a former store into a community center offering legal advice, computer classes and English instruction. Local Muslim leaders began meeting with federal agents to soothe relations.

Moe Howard was a Jew, you know. So were his brothers, Curly and Shemp. And don't forget my favorite Stooge, Larry Fine.

Goat rape will be on its way to the dustbin of history when little mohammedan boys start reenacting Three Stooges routines they see on tv.

The annual Pakistan Independence Day parade is now awash in U.S. flags.
It is a transformation seen in Muslim immigrant communities around the nation.

"They have to prove that they are living here as Muslim Americans rather than living as Pakistanis and Egyptians and other nationalities," said Zahid H. Bukhari, director of the American Muslim Studies Program at Georgetown University.

Amen to that, Brother. Just like every other American's ancestors did.

Five years? It seems like only yesterday...

Actually, it was this past Saturday.

Buffalo News: Man with hidden knife arrested at airport

ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) - A man with a one-way ticket to Yemen attempted to board a plane with a knife hidden in a book, authorities said.

To be fair, all tickets to Yemen seem one way...

Mohammed Ghanem, 21, of Hamtramck, was jailed Saturday on $500,000 bail after being arraigned on a charge of possessing a weapon in the secure area of an airport.

The FBI is investigating the case, according to Sunday's Detroit Free Press.
Ghanem was arrested Thursday at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after Transportation Security Administration officers detected the knife "artfully concealed" in the book, airport spokesman Michael Conway said.

Someone had carved out the inside of the book and placed the knife inside it, said Ghanem's attorney, Nabih Ayad.

"He said he didn't know where the knife came from," Ayad told the Free Press.

I believe him. I myself have been hiding knives in library books since puberty.

If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

Ghanem, who was born in Yemen, is now a legal permanent resident of the United States and was returning to Yemen to get married, Ayad said.

What is it with you mohammedans and marriage?

WRIC-TV: 200 protest admitting men to Randolph-Macon Woman's College

LYNCHBURG, Va. Students, alumnae and faculty members are asking the Randolph-Macon Woman's College's board of trustees to delay its planned vote Saturday on admitting men to the 115-year-old institution.

A series of speakers addressed a crowd of about 200 that gathered in front of Smith Hall today to protest the board's expected decision to make the school coed.

Now you chicks know how we Penile-Americans have been suffering for the last forty years.

Alumnae from around the country plan to gather on the Lynchburg campus Friday and Saturday to show their support for the enriched lives they've led because they attended the women's college.

The alumnae plan an exhibition of art, music and dance on the grounds while the board is meeting and will parade around campus carrying parasols.

Parasols?

Paul Fix: Student, football player, Israeli special forces vet, American.

The more men like Paul Fix the world has, the shorter this war will be.

Lancaster (PA) Sunday News: Diplomat at war

On Paul Fix’s laptop computer there’s a huge file of digital photos that tell the story of his young-adult life.

The photos start in college. He’s a senior at Franklin & Marshall. Those pictures are predictably collegiate, bawdy, full of extra-extracurricular activities.

Then there’s some football shots. He’s a tailback for the Diplomats.

Scroll down for a while, and soon you’re looking at camouflage, weapons, brutally rocky and foreign-looking terrain, and finally, Fix alongside dark, docile, blindfolded young men.“The bad guys,’’ he calls them.

No. That is what they are.

Fix, 24, expects to share time at the starting tailback spot this fall. But he spent the last three years fighting terrorism. Fighting it in an upclose and very untheoretical way.

Instant translation: The author thinks Paul is a dope.

Fix was a member of a special operations unit of the Israeli army, fighting Hezbollah, the Shia Islamic terrorist group that’s been much in the news lately for its open warfare with Israel.

This was after three years of college. One year away from graduation, Fix not only put his life on hold but risked it.

He’d do it again.

“I’ve certainly seen some horrible stuff,’’ Fix said Tuesday. “Things I’ll carry with me the rest of my life. But any of the horrible stuff is heavily overshadowed by the fact that we were saving people’s lives.’’

Amen to that, Brother.

Hard not to respect the attitude. It transcends politics.

Nice try, knucklehead, but this all about politics! Usodom Bend Boyluvden wants to be King of the World. If you think he's trying to save souls, you are an incredible fool.

“Just an amazing kid,’’ John Troxell, F&M’s first-year football coach, said Wednesday. “They don’t come any better.’’

Fix is Jewish but ("But"? Like they don't allow Jews in Africa to have kids? - F.G.) was born in South Africa and grew up in Scarsdale, N.Y. His family, especially his late father, nurtured in Fix a powerful affection for, and belief in, the Jewish holy land.

Fix’s father tried to join the Israeli Army during the 1967 Six-Day War, but, “by the time he got there it was over with,’’ Fix said.

“There was always a strong connection to [Israel]. We were taught that we had to help take care of it when something was wrong.’’

Heck, most Americans don't care that much about their own neighborhoods.

When Fix was a senior in high school, the Arab-Israeli conflict was relatively calm. Three years later, “buses were getting blown up on a weekly basis,’’ he said.

Fix moved to Israel, were he lived in a kibbutz — a kind of collective mini-society — for six months, established residency and completed the paperwork and logistics involved in joining the army.

Oy vey! Double oy vey, even.

He joined a special-forces unit which required 16 months of training culminating in a “Hell Week’’ of virtually no food or sleep and nonstop practice operations.

From a group of around 300 candidates, Fix’s unit was cut to around 40, and finally down to 12.

The Israeli army numbered over 125,000 as of 2004, with 700,000 reserves. Less than 300 make the grade Fix did.

It wasn’t conventional infantry work. Fix’s unit would work closely with Israeli intelligence to hunt down and capture or kill specific terrorists.

Yippee!

For example: “Our intelligence told us that a 17-year-old [terrorist] was planning to go into a town in Israel wearing an explosive belt on a certain night. When the bombs went off, there would be three guys on a hill, snipers, waiting to pick people off as they ran away.’’

Fix’s unit went in under cover of darkness, found and captured the guy with the belt, and through interrogation got him to give up his three comrades.

Must have been a, uh, forceful interrogation.

Uh?

This is the sports editor's idea of cleverness.

“I don’t know,’’ Fix said. “I didn’t interrogate him.’’

And so it went. Fix said his unit routinely exchanged gunfire with terrorists and even killed the son of Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah.

Three of Fix’s friends from the unit have been killed, one of them since he’s returned to the United States.

May God have mercy on their brave souls.

“It’s dangerous stuff,’’ he said. “It’s an unfortunate situation we’re in, where in order to save lives, some people have to risk theirs.’’

This young man has wisdom beyond his years. That last sentence sums it all up perfectly.

As for the current open warfare with Hezbollah along the Israeli-Lebanon border, Fix says unlike most geopolitical analysts, he saw it coming.“During the six years we’ve been fighting them, they’ve made numerous attempts to infiltrate Israel,’’ he said.

“We knew they were gathering arms caches, readying themselves.’’

Fix said before the conflict went so dramatically above-ground, he couldn’t have openly showed some of his photos, the ones with the captured terrorists, since they were classified.

It’s a long way from all that to the Centennial Conference. But Fix doesn’t quite buy in to the predictable observation that compared to what he’s been through, football is trivia.

“It’s the greatest sport in the world, to me,’’ he said. “It’s so great being with your teammates. There’s so much camaraderie, unlike any other sport. There’s no doubt I love the game as much as ever.’’

Amen to that, Brother.

Most of those teammates have only a rough idea, or none at all, of what he’s been through.

They will.

“Most of the younger kids know he’s an older guy, but that’s about it,’’ Troxell said. “It’s important to me that he’s treated like everybody else.’’

Right now that means sitting and watching, while Fix nurses a back injury. He missed F&M’s season opener Saturday with Washington & Lee.

“There’s going to be a time,’’ Troxell said, “when I have him address the team, let them know what he’s been through, and what he’s learned from it.’’

Troxell has an idea about that.

“I suspect that when he left, he didn’t realize what he really had, the football part and the school part,’’ he said. “Most people don’t realize that at the time. I know I didn’t.’’

Fix’s degree will be in business management. He intends to enter the corporate world and have a long, successful, peaceful life in America.

“Unless a war breaks out,’’ he said.

Results of this weekend's football picks.

Picking selected college games played on Friday 9/8 and Saturday 9/9, I was a spectacular 13 and 5 against the spread.

The 2,996 Project.

As usual, Michelle Malkin gets it.

I am kicking off 24-hour 9/11 anniversary coverage today with my entry for the 2,996 Project.

As I mentioned last month, the project launched by D.C. Roe involves more than 3,000 bloggers who have joined together to commemorate each and every one of the victims of 9/11 on this fifth anniversary.

I am participant number 2290 and my honoree is Giovanna Porras.

Ms. Porras was 24 years old and worked for General Telecom. She was last seen alive on the 83rd floor, World Trade Center, Tower One. Here's how the NYTimes profiled her:

Giovanna Porras realized many of her dreams this year. In January she received an associate accounting degree from Baruch College, and six months ago she landed an accounting job at General Telecom.

Ms. Porras, 24, lived in Queens with her mother and was proud to be working at the famous World Trade Center, said her older sister, Roxana Batista. Ms. Porras planned to study for her C.P.A. degree in a few months and was sticking to her diet by working out.

"She was just a happy, cheerful person," Ms. Batista said, the type who was there for everyone. She was like a second mother to her nephews and pulled for her boyfriend, Demetrios Xanthopoulos, at softball games. Mr. Xanthopoulos,
also an accountant, said Ms. Porras pushed him to do his best.

She was the kind of young woman who was as comfortable escorting her mother, Adela Romero, around town as she was nightclub-hopping with her friends. "There was not one person in the world she wouldn't get along with," Mr. Xanthopoulos said.

Newsday adds:

Adela Romero of South Ozone Park left her native Peru to escape the terrorism there 10 years after her first daughter, Giovanna Porras, was born in Lima. Adela, Giovanna and Giovanna's sister, Roxanna, settled in Richmond Hill,
Queens, and later moved to South Ozone Park.

It was in Queens that Giovanna, 24, excelled in school, and graduated with honors from John Adams High School in South Ozone Park in 1995, said her aunt Ruth Romero. "She always tried to do her best," her mother added. Giovanna graduated from Baruch College in Manhattan with a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting in March.
"Giovanna was the first one in our family to graduate from college," said cousin Denisse Arrunategui. "Everyone was proud."

An accountant for General Telecomm on the 83rd floor of Tower One, Giovanna Porras was last heard from in a voicemail message that she left for her boyfriend, James Xantopolous, in which she said she had felt the impact from the first plane hitting the building, and that she was trapped.

Her aunt said that along with destroying the Twin Towers, the attacks on Sept. 11 destroyed her niece's hopes. "Giovanna was planning to go to graduate school to earn a master's degree in accounting," her aunt said. "It's sad because she never got to realize her dreams. She had so many plans. The buildings can be rebuilt, but you can never get back those lives."

These message boards set up online in the immediate aftermath of the attacks always make my heart hurt. Here was an entry from a friend of Ms. Porras's:

Friends and love ones looking for Giovanna Porras WTC Tower 1 83rd Floor. Please email any information possible.

And here's another. The Legacy.com entry for Giovanna Porras is here. Page 2 includes messages from her family, high school friends, and a college classmate.

Ms. Porras was the epitome of the American Dream. Living the life she wanted. Exercising the freedoms the jihadis live to snuff out. I will not forget her.

Who are you remembering today?

Pray for the soul of Miss Porras and the souls of all the victims of the mohammedans throughout history...

Of course, you may pray for the souls of their murderers as well...It is the proper Christian thing to do, after all...

But...

I won't. I hope the One True God has condemned them to a particularly nasty circle of Hell.

Today is the 155th Anniversary of the Christiana Riot.

The first shots of the American Civil War were fired on this date in 1851 between Pennsylvania abolitionists and Maryland slaveholders seeking their runaway slaves in Christiana, Pennsylvania.

From the Tarlton Law Library of the University of Texas at Austin:

While the carpenters were building the tenant house and the millwrights were putting up the saw mill, in November, 1849, the negroes were cutting and tapping the corn, haul- ing in the unshucked ears with ox-carts to the barn floor where, by aid of lanterns, the whole household, mechanics and slaves engaged nightly in husking bee merriment. Mean- time news of Bill Foster's search for Abe Johnson were rife; likewise suspicious that the colored "boys" had helped him to raid the cornhouse and shared his spoils. One day they exhibited unwanted unrest and clustered into whispering groups; one expressed to the white workmen special anxiety to know "if the Boss is going to husk corn tonight," and another declared his purpose to set a rabbit trap, for it was "going to be a very dark night."

It was. There was no corn husking; and Knight, the car- penter, was aroused early by the call of Dickinson Gorsuch from down stairs that "the boys are all gone." They escaped through a skylight in the back building and made their way down a ladder and up the York turnpike. When the Gor- suches next saw any of them it was in the flash and fire of the Christiana Riot, in the early dawn of September 11, 1851, at Parker's cabin...

Food For The Poor

Food For The Poor, Inc.

Food For The Poor (FFP) ministers to spiritually renew impoverished people throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Established in 1982 as a 501(c)(3)corporation, our goals are to improve the health, economic, social and spiritual conditions of the men, women and children we serve.

Food For The Poor raises funds and provides direct relief assistance to the poor, usually by purchasing specifically requested materials and distributing them through the churches and charity organizations already operating in areas of need. In this way, the organization serves the poor with dignity and ensures the most appropriate use of donors' funds.

Since its founding in 1982, Food For The Poor (FFP), a Christian international aid organization, distributed more than $2.3 billion in food, medical, educational, building and small business supplies to 16 countries in the Caribbean and Central America. The organization maintains an average administrative overhead of 4 percent -- ensuring the poor receive 96 percent of all donations.

Food For The Poor follows the principle that education and self-help must fortify charity work so recipients learn to break the cycle of poverty. FFP supports programs to teach recipients how to raise livestock, develop small businesses and provides agricultural assistance to independent farmers.

ABC's paean to the genius that is King Goober II continues apace...

...tonight at 8 PM Eastern.

Honestly, it was not as bad as I had feared after I learned Harvey Keitel was the star. (Ick! There's one of those Wahlberg clowns in there too!)

I got a little nervous when Usodom Bend Boyluvden was given the false prophet treatment for most of the three hour long first installment...

We never did see his face. I guess ol' Goober got to them after all...

Those folks on the Gulf Coast are our neighbors. You know what to do.

Does everyone now see the futility of government action?

No, of course not.

After more than a year of vote-buying and blame-assignment, at least $110 billion US taxpayer dollars (We have got off light - so far. See below.) have been spent and the region is still a mess. That is no surprise to TheChurchMilitant. People are the most important resource in the world, and not only cannot government EVER meet the needs of ANYONE, ANYWHERE, at ANYTIME its actions are ALWAYS destructive and corrupting.

For the past year I have given you an opportunity to TRULY help our brothers and sisters in Christ who have suffered from the effects of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita through Catholic Charities USA.
While not perfect (What endeavor of man is?) Catholic Charities USA is infinitely better than the vile slavery offered to the poor and forgotten by our moral and intellectual superiors.

I would like to request another prayer from you, Gentle Reader, as the second year of recovery continues. Please pray to Almighty God that all men may throw off the shackles of ignorance and servitude that demean them and stifle their immortal souls.

First, last, and always, PRAY. Pray for the survivors. Pray for the repose of the souls of those who were killed. Pray for the families and friends. Pray for the relief workers, the cops, the firemen, the troops, and the technicians. Pray for the volunteers.

It is time to step up once again, kiddies. "Do unto others", "I was naked and you clothed me", et cetera.

As time passes, the memory of these disasters will fade for those of us fortunate enough to live outside the devastated areas, but recovery and restoration will take years.

Please, whatever you do, don't become a cynic. (I know, I know. But I just play one on the computer.) Of course there will be more horror stories like the abuse of the debit cards and that $250-odd billion federal package will produce insane amounts of corruption, but our fellow Americans will be suffering from Katrina for a long time.

True charity, (News Flash! Taxes ARE NOT charity.) like the money you donate to Catholic Charities will help the truly needy and will not foster dependency.

Catholic Charities USA is collecting financial donations to Catholic Charities agencies’ emergency and long-term recovery efforts in the wake of both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. Catholic Charities USA is consistently ranked among the highest and most efficient organizations across the country. Approximately 96 percent of contributions made to the 2005 Hurricane Relief Fund will be used for emergency response and recovery efforts.

War was declared on the United States of America 1,826 days ago...

...at least that is the day most people remember. Of course, the War of the Mohammedan Heretics began much earlier. Many people believe it started in 1948, when the state of Israel was founded.

Personally, I believe the false religion of the false prophet has been at war with Christianity, Judaism, and the West since its bastard birth.

I call this particular phase of the fighting the War of the Mohammedan Heretics because I would like to give the benefit of the doubt to the vast majority of the 750-odd million folks around the world who profess the mohammedan faith. As I have typed before and will undoubtedly type again, those mohammedans who do not believe their religion sanctions the wholesale slaughter of innocents for the sake of political power disguised as piety must do something to stop this nonsense before it is too late.

I suggest these reasonable mohammedans find the goat rapists among them, shoot them in the head, and dump their accursed corpses onto public thoroughfares.

While this may seem a bit extreme, it is in the long-term interest of all mohammedans everywhere. If the reasonable ones do not eradicate the pests among them surgically, the rest of the world (even the Slave Chinese) will eventually use decidedly non-surgical means to destroy them and a considerable number of innocent mohammedans will be killed in the process.

I know what you're thinking, kiddies, but this is not rhetoric.

First, consider what we did in World War II. It took us a while to get up to speed, but once we did, killing came easily. Just ask the Germans and the Japanese, both of whom were pacified by their abject defeat. (BTW, if you think the mohammedan goat rapists are fanatics, take a look at the devotees of the Emperor-God of Imperial Japan during the first half of the late, unlamented century.)

Second, consider the charges of decadence leveled at Christianity and the West by the goat rapists themselves. They are correct. The West is in decline.

But rather than an opportunity for the goat rapists, this will be the death of them and millions of their innocent coreligionists. There is very little Christian charity and chivalry left in Christendom, especially among the elites who rule us. If the mohammedan world is counting on the consciences of our leaders to protect them from nuclear incineration, I wish them luck. They are going to need it.

All it will take is a president who only worships power and feels that power is threatened. I believe John McCain, Senator War Hero, is one such man. Who knows what the real torture inflicted upon him by his North Vietnamese communist captors did to him?

And then there is US Senatrix Hitlery Schicklgruber (N-NY), a Vaginal-American utterly devoid of conscience. If you mohammedans think it would be awful being immolated by a McCain phone call, imagine how much worse it would be if you and everyone around you was sent to Hell by an elitist cow who has never dusted a shelf or washed a load of laundry in her life...

Saint of the Day and daily Mass readings.

Today is the Feast of St. Paphnutius, "the holy confessor":

Paphnutius was an Egyptian who, after having spent several years in the desert under the direction of the great St. Antony, was made bishop in the Upper Thebaid. He was one of those confessors who under the Emperor Maximinus lost the right eye, were hamstrung in one leg, and were afterwards sent to work in the mines. Peace being restored to the Church, Paphnutius returned to his flock, bearing all the rest of his life the glorious marks of his sufferings for the name of his Crucified Master.

He was one of the most zealous in defending the Catholic faith against the Arian heresy and for his holiness. As one who had confessed the Faith before persecutors and under torments, he was an outstanding figure of the first General Council of the Church, held at Nicaea in the year 325.

Paphnutius, a man who had observed the strictest continence all his life, is said to have distinguished himself at the Council by his opposition to clerical celibacy. Paphnutius said that it was enough to conform to the ancient tradition of the Church, which forbade the clergy marrying after their ordination. To this day it is the law of the Eastern Churches, whether Catholic or dissident, that married men may receive all Holy Orders below the episcopate, and continue to live freely with their wives.

St. Paphnutius is sometimes called "the Great" to distinguish him from other saints of the same name; the year of his death is not known.

Pray for us, all you angels and saints.

About Me

My photo
First of all, the word is SEX, not GENDER. If you are ever tempted to use the word GENDER, don't. The word is SEX! SEX! SEX! SEX! For example: "My sex is male." is correct. "My gender is male." means nothing. Look it up. What kind of sick neo-Puritan nonsense is this? Idiot left-fascists, get your blood-soaked paws off the English language. Hence I am choosing "male" under protest.
