79 Year Old Good Samaritan Raped by Ex-Con She Took Into Her Home

A man accused of raping a 79-year-old woman the day after he got out of prison was arrested by police Wednesday.

“It doesn’t get any worse than this. This is as bad as it gets‚” said Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce L. Castor Jr.

The victim was not able to ward off the attack due to a medical condition‚ he said.

Gregory Yeakel‚ 43‚ was released on Feb. 9 from the Montgomery County Correctional Facility‚ where he served a 23-month sentence for simple assault. The same day he was taken in by the victim at her Upper Gwynedd residence.

Upper Gwynedd Detective Sgt. Jim Pifer‚ the lead investigator of this case‚ said the woman knew Yeakel from having assisted him before.

“In the past when he needed help‚ she was there for him‚” Pifer said. “It’s a shame. She’s a super‚ super nice lady.”

Yeakel showed up at the residence and was given a place to stay for the night. At about 4 p.m. the next day‚ the woman noticed that Yeakel was tired and advised him to take a nap. Yeakel went inside the room where he was staying.

The woman was also tired and lay down on the living room sofa for a nap.
While she was sleeping‚ Yeakel allegedly slapped her on the left side of her face‚ waking her up‚ the affidavit stated.

He then allegedly raped her‚ the affidavit said.

The woman locked herself inside the bathroom until her son came home. Yeakel was not there when the son arrived.

Pifer said the victim contacted police and then was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital for a sexual assault exam.

“She’s going through physical and emotional pain from the rape‚” Pifer said Wednesday evening.

He said the department had received information concerning Yeakel’s whereabouts. He was arrested by Upper Gwynedd officers at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia.

Yeakel faces charges of one count of rape‚ two counts of aggravated indecent assault‚ two counts of indecent assault and one count of indecent exposure.

Upper Gwynedd police Chief Robert Freed said everything was being done to aid the victim through this traumatic time.

“We’re making sure that she gets the proper attention she needs‚” he said.
