Miers' Judicial Philosophy - and Her Writing Ability

At the end of the Senate Judiciary Committee questionnaire, Miers describes her judicial philosophy. In a long essay, she is asked to describe what she considers judicial activism. I don't think this essay will help her nomination.

I am sorry to say that it is written poorly. She tends to go off on sidetracks. She tends to have a rambling style that constantly keeps you wondering where she is going - that is, when she is not wasting time with platitudes. Platitudes have their place, but not here. Perhaps she meant this more as a speech to the American people. I think lawyers will be extremely unimpressed with this. The more I think about it, the more it sounds more like a speech.

The good news is that developing a better writing style is not that hard. The bad news is that she should have done it before this document was released.

The whole post is worth reading, kiddies. You just might be able to get a vague idea who this woman might have been and who she might be now.

My gripe? We should not have to study the entrails of a chicken to find out if the Supreme Court nominee of a Repansysan president knows one end of the Constitution from the other.
