It seems Pope Francis needs to brush up on his Tertullian!

It has been reported (in The ChristLast Media, I must note) that the current Pope does not like the phrase "lead us not into temptation...

"Let no freedom be allowed to novelty, because it is not fitting that any addition should be made to antiquity. Let not the clear faith and belief of our forefathers be fouled by any muddy admixture." -- Pope Sixtus III

GEELONG 119 COLLINGWOOD 81

The Cats were fantastic throughout and finally put away a tough Magpies squad in the fourth.

If you harbor any snide comments about Meatloaf providing the entertainment, keep in mind the NFL today named Madonna as the Super Bowl halftime act. Her Coprophilia Tour continues apace.

From AFL.com.au:

Cat empire

GEELONG has claimed the club's ninth premiership and marked itself as one of the greatest sides of all time with a stunning 38-point Grand Final win against Collingwood.

The Cats and the Pies were the two best teams of the season and they played out an epic contest in front of 99,537 fans at the MCG, with Chris Scott's men prevailing 18.11 (119) to 12.9 (81).

The win over the Magpies, who had lost only two matches for the season, both against the Cats, gave Geelong its third premiership in five seasons.

Geelong eked out a seven-point lead at three-quarter time after a see-sawing third term that saw the lead change hands five times, but in the last quarter the Magpies couldn't go with the Cats, who finished full of running.

Jimmy Bartel and Joel Selwood both had an enormous influence around the stoppages and it was Bartel who got the nod for the Norm Smith Medal for his 26-possession, three-goal performance.

Tom Hawkins played the game of his career in the absence of James Podsiadly, who was knocked out of the game in the second quarter. After a goalless first half, Hawkins became a focal point when the game was on the line and finished with three goals and gave another to Steve Johnson.

Travis Varcoe got his team off to a dream start when he goaled with just 10 seconds on the clock and the Pies had to defend grimly in the opening minutes.

The Magpies were able to soak up the early pressure and hit back mainly through Travis Cloke, who proved a handful for Harry Taylor, and got in front early in the second quarter after trailing by a point at the first break.

The Cats lost Podsiadly midway through the second quarter when he was up-ended in a marking contest by Ben Reid, who had spoiled strongly. The Geelong forward crashed to the turf on his right shoulder and he was stretchered from the field, with his spot taken by substitute Mitch Duncan.

Scott Pendlebury struggled with a Joel Corey tag early, but he worked into the game well to finish with 33 touches and 10 clearances. He was important in the third quarter when both teams refused to be bowed, but couldn't stop the Cats edging in front.

The Pies needed a lift from Brownlow medallist Dane Swan in the last quarter, but Cameron Ling had successfully nullified him all day and he couldn't shake the tag.

Johnson, who had been under an injury cloud all week, capped an excellent game with the first goal of the final term and when Bartel pushed that advantage out past four goals the premiership cup was headed back to Geelong for the third time in five years.

Scott coached the Cats to a flag in his first year in charge - a feat last accomplished by Alan Joyce at Hawthorn in 1988.

Key match-ups
Ling on Swan was the only constant tag of the day through the middle and it was an important one for the Cats with their skipper keeping the dangerous Brownlow Medallist to 20 possessions.

Tom Lonergan was sent to Cloke after the Pies' forward got away from Taylor for three goals and he shut him down.

Brad Ottens and Trent West faced off against Darren Jolly, who only had part-time back up, and the Cats' tandem carried the day. They had 56 hit-outs between them while Jolly managed 34.

Rolling the dice
Steve Johnson, Jolly and Reid were all under an injury cloud during the week with the Cats' forward considered the longest shot to play after he badly sprained his left knee in a tackle by West Coast's Andrew Embley in the preliminary final, but it was Stevie J who had the biggest influence on the match.

Jolly and Reid, although passed fit from their respective groin injuries, appeared to labour on the day, while Johnson booted four goals.

Tall timber
With Podsiadly knocked out of the contest, the Pies looked poised to take the aerial advantage with Chris Dawes and Cloke at one end and Hawkins down at the other.

But Lonergan's move onto Cloke saw his influence drop right off, and Dawes had a slow start and finished goalless.

Hawkins, who was seen in earnest conversation with retiring Cats' forward Cam Mooney at half-time, elevated his game to another level to take seven contested marks and boot three goals.

Springing the press
Collingwood's success has been built on the stifling forward pressure that has effectively locked the ball into their forward half for long periods, but they weren't able to replicate that against the Cats.

Scott's men kicked long from the back half and created numbers around the contest, with swift ball movement the order of the day and their willingness to play on quickly not allowing the Pies to get organised.

Cat heaven
Twelve Cats - Bartel, Andrew Mackie, Ottens, James Kelly, Corey, David Wojcinski, Ling, Matthew Scarlett, Paul Chapman, Selwood, Corey Enright and Johnson - are now triple premiership players.

Podsiadly, Lonergan, Mitch Duncan, West and Allen Christensen are premiership players for the first time.

QUARTER BY QUARTER

First quarter - Geelong 4.3 (27) led Collingwood 4.2 (26)

Travis Varcoe gave Geelong the dream start and cast more doubts over his direct opponent Leon Davis' form in big finals, kicking a goal in the opening 10 seconds of the game. Steve Johnson erased concerns over his fitness setting up a second goal to Varcoe only minutes later and leaving the Magpies stunned. Led by dominant ruckman Brad Ottens, the Cats controlled the stoppages and appeared more desperate, highlighted by crunching tackles from David Wojcinski, Andrew Mackie and Allen Christensen. Travis Cloke almost single-handedly dragged Collingwood back into the contest, outpointing Harry Taylor and kicking two goals, including a long-range bomb from 60m. Another goal to Andrew Krakouer put the Pies ahead, but the Cats hit back through miracle man Johnson. The two teams traded goals as the match evened up in the latter stages of the term. Luke Ball restored Collingwood's lead with a goal from a 50m penalty, but Joel Selwood slotted his first to put Geelong a point ahead at quarter-time.

Second quarter - Collingwood 9.3 (57) led Geelong 8.6 (54)

It was Collingwood's turn to get the jump in the second quarter. Inspired by influential players Cloke and Krakouer, the Magpies kicked three unanswered goals to streak to an 18-point lead early in the term. Cloke's dominance forced Geelong coach Chris Scott to move Tom Lonergan onto the in-form forward. Mathew Stokes broke Collingwood's run with his first goal, but Krakouer continued his fairytale season with a fine mark and goal. At the opposite end of the ground, the other fairytale story of the Grand Final involving James Podsiadly turned into a nightmare. Podsiadly dislocated his shoulder after landing heavily in a marking contest and was immediately substituted out of the game. As was the case in the first term, the momentum shifted late in the quarter. Livewire Cat Johnson got involved again, kicking his second goal and a boundary line beauty from Jimmy Bartel cut the margin to three points at the main change.

Third quarter - Geelong 13.7 (85) led Collingwood 12.6 (78)

For the second time in a Grand Final involving Geelong, there was controversy over a goal-umpiring decision. Unlikely hero Tom Hawkins, who stepped up in the absence of the injured Podsiadly, put the Cats ahead with two goals. Collingwood hit back after being awarded a goal to Sharrod Wellingham, but the replay indicated the ball had hit the post. Both teams defied fatigue and intermittent rain to go goal for goal, with Leigh Brown, Bartel, Steele Sidebottom and substitute Mitch Duncan all hitting the scoreboard in the tough slog. Cameron Ling and Joel Corey continued their impressive jobs on Collingwood match winners Dane Swan and Scott Pendlebury. A third goal to Hawkins saw the Cats edge seven points ahead and helped set the stage for a thrilling final term.

Fourth quarter - Geelong 18.11 (119) d Collingwood 12.9 (81)

Hawkins continued his dominance over an underdone Ben Reid, hauling in two marks in the opening four minutes of the final quarter, but missed both shots at goal to take his return to 3.3. The ball landed in his lap again just moments later, but troubled by his goalkicking demons, he had a quick word to Johnson and gave off a cheeky handball to the 2007 Norm Smith medallist, who strolled in and kicked third goal. Goals to Bartel and Varcoe extended Geelong's lead to 26 points and the Pies, who had a tough game against Hawthorn last weekend, had nothing left and saw the margin blow out.

Collingwood 4.2 9.3 12.6 12.9 (81)

ESPN pulls theme song after Obama slur

Hank Williams Jr., the singer whose various videos for the hit song "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Monday Night" has served as the intro to "Monday Night Football" for 23 seasons, compared President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler during a Monday morning appearance on "Fox and Friends." The statement led to ESPN pulling his popular intro segment, best known to fans for its "Are you ready for some football?" ending, for Monday night's game between the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During a discussion on the 2012 presidential race, Williams began discussing Obama's golf outing with Speaker of the House John Boehner. He said it was a political mistake, on par with "Hitler playing golf with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu."

Herman Cain's 999 Plan.

This makes too much sense, kiddies, and that's why our moral and intellectual superiors won't go for it. We'll have to shove it down their throats.

Vision for Economic Growth

  • The natural state of our economy is prosperity. Freedom ensures that.
  • We must get the government off our backs, out of our pockets and out of our way in order to return to prosperity.
  • Policy uncertainty is killing the economy.

Economic Guiding Principles

  1. Production drives the economy, not spending.
    • We can not spend our way to prosperity.
    • Government spending IS taxation.
    • Government spending is like taking a bucket of water from the deep end of the pool, pouring it in the shallow end. Then they HOPE that the water level will CHANGE.
  2. Risk taking drives growth .
    • Business formation and job creation are dependent on entrepreneurs taking risks.
    • Investors who fund those entrepreneurs likewise take risks.
  3. Measurements must be dependable.
    • A dollar must always be a dollar just as an hour is always 60 minutes.
    • Sound money is crucial for prosperity.

We Must Unite Not Divide

  • When one party seeks to spend so that the other party must focus on cutting, we must unite around economic growth.
  • Unite all tax payers, don’t divide them into “income” tax payers vs. “payroll” tax payers.
  • Unite those wanting to eliminate deductions with those seeking lower rates.
  • As a first step, unite the “Flat-Taxers” with the “Fair-Taxers”

Economic Growth is the Key

  • This is the worst recovery since the Depression.
  • If the President’s goal was to tie for last place with the previous worst recovery, he failed by 6 million jobs.
  • If we had a typical recovery, 13 million more Americans would be employed today.
  • That means more tax revenue, less government spending and 13 million less people opposed to reasonable spending cuts.
  • The Super Committee must deliver a robust growth solution.
  • America can’t wait for 2012, we need growth NOW

Phase 1 - Immediate Boost

  • As I have outlined, the following represent the minimum for feeding the economic engine and are the “low hanging fruit” offering the most “bang for the buck”
  • Reduce individual and business income taxes to a maximum 25%
  • Eliminate taxes on repatriated foreign profits and capital gains.
  • The capital gains tax is a wall separating those with ideas from those with money.
  • Why would we want to wall off those with ideas? That’s where we get business formation, job creation and innovation.
  • When companies sell products overseas they face double taxation when those profits are brought home (repatriation) to invest in America and pay its workers.
  • Companies don’t ship jobs overseas, Liberals ship capital overseas and the jobs merely follow.

Phase 1 - Enhanced Plan

  • Current circumstances call for bolder action.
  • The Phase 1 Enhanced Plan incorporates the features of Phase One and gets us a step closer to Phase two.
  • I call on the Super Committee to pass the Phase 1 Enhanced Plan along with their spending cut package.
  • The Phase 1 Enhanced Plan unites Flat Tax supporters with Fair tax supporters.
  • Achieves the broadest possible tax base along with the lowest possible rate of 9%.
  • It ends the Payroll Tax completely – a permanent holiday!
  • Zero capital gains tax
  • Ends the Death Tax.
  • Eliminates double taxation of dividends
  • Business Flat Tax – 9%
    • Gross income less all investments, all purchases from other businesses and all dividends paid to shareholders.
    • Empowerment Zones will offer additional deductions for payroll employed in the zone.
  • Individual Flat Tax – 9%.
    • Gross income less charitable deductions.
    • Empowerment Zones will offer additional deductions for those living and/or working in the zone.
  • National Sales Tax – 9%.
    • This gets the Fair Tax off the sidelines and into the game.

Phase 2 – The Fair Tax

  • Amidst a backdrop of the economic boom created by the Phase 1 Enhanced Plan, I will begin the process of educating the American people on the benefits of continuing the next step to the Fair Tax.
  • The Fair Tax would ultimately replace individual and corporate income taxes.
  • It would make it possible to end the IRS as we know it.
  • The Fair Tax makes our exported goods and services the most competitively internationally than any other tax system.

Phase 1 Enhanced Plan – Summary

  • Unites all tax payers so we all pay income taxes and no one pays payroll taxes
  • Provides the least incentive to evade taxes and the fewest opportunities to do so
  • Lifts a $430 billion dead-weight burden on the economy due to compliance, enforcement, collection, etc.
  • Is fair, neutral, transparent, and efficient
  • Ends nearly all deductions and special interest favors
  • Ends all payroll taxes
  • Ends the Death Tax
  • Features zero tax on capital gains and repatriated profits
  • Lowest marginal rates on production
  • Allows immediate expensing of business investments
  • Eliminates double taxation of dividends
  • Increases capital formation. Capital per worker drives productivity and wage growth
  • Capital formation will aid capital availability for small businesses
  • Features a platform to launch properly structured Empowerment Zones to revitalize our inner cities
  • We all know the Fed has tripled the money supply since 2008. They have been printing money out of thin air to finance the Obama spending machine. While true Fed reform that restores sound money may have to wait for my election, the best thing we can do now is to pursue policies that increase the DEMAND for dollars to help mitigate the risks associated with the increase in the supply.
  • Pro-growth economic policies equal a strong dollar policy

From Fox News:

Obama Administration to OK New Green Energy Loan Guarantees Before Stimulus Deadline

It's just like those guys from the St. Valentine's Day Massacre...might as well empty our clips into those corpses 'cause there's no sense in saving ammunition.

The Obama administration is moving to finalize as many as 15 loan guarantees for renewable energy companies before the stimulus program ends on Sept. 30, and Republicans are questioning whether that could lead to more failures like Solyndra Inc., a company that filed for bankruptcy and may leave taxpayers on the hook for a half-billion-dollar loan.

The loan guarantees essentially make it easier for the companies to get financing as the government guarantees repayment in the event of default. In Solyndra's case, the loan came from the government itself, but private banks often provide the financing.

A spokesman for the Energy Department said the department won't take any shortcuts during the approval process.

"We will only close the deals that are ready to close on Sept. 30," said spokesman Damien LaVera.

A congressional subcommittee is examining the loan guarantee program. It released documents Wednesday that appeared to show senior staff at the White House Office of Management and Budget chafing about having to conduct "rushed approvals" of a loan guarantee for Solyndra, a California manufacturer of solar panels. The company is also the subject of an FBI investigation.

Republican members of the committee said the emails raised questions about whether the loan was rushed to accommodate a groundbreaking ceremony in September 2009 that featured Vice President Joe Biden and Energy Secretary Steven Chu.

"We would prefer to have sufficient time to do our due diligence reviews and have the approval set the date for the announcement rather than the other way around," said one of the emails from an unidentified OMB aide to Biden's office.

In another email exchange obtained by the committee, an Energy Department official asked a staff member at OMB if "there is anything we can speed along on the OMB side." Again, neither official was identified.

"I would prefer that this announcement be postponed," the OMB official replied. "This is the first loan guarantee and we should have full review with all hands on deck to make sure we get it right."

White House spokesman Jay Carney said the emails don't suggest that the White House was pushing for the loan to be made.

"What the emails make clear is there was urgency to make a decision on a scheduling matter," Carney told reporters at the White House. "It is a big proposition to move the president or to put on an event and that sort of thing so people were simply looking for answers about whether or not people could move forward."

"It had nothing to -- and there is no evidence to the contrary -- nothing to do with anything besides the need to get an answer to make a scheduling decision," he said.

Solyndra once was the showcase for President Barack Obama's efforts to increase investment in renewable energy and to generate jobs. But the marketplace for its products changed dramatically over the past year. Chinese companies have flooded the market with inexpensive solar energy panels, and Europe's economy weakened demand from customers. The result has been an unprecedented drop in solar cell prices this year. Two other solar panel manufacturers also filed for bankruptcy in the past month.

Administration officials stressed that private investors thought so highly of Solyndra's prospects that they put more than $1 billion of their own money into the company.

But Republicans on the panel said there appeared to be a rush in approving financing for Solyndra, and they expressed concern that a similar rush may be taking place now with agreements that would have the federal government guaranteeing an additional $10 billion in loans if all the guarantees are approved before Sept. 30.

"In this time of record debt, I question whether the government is qualified to act as a venture capitalist, picking winner and loser in speculative ventures and shelling out billions of taxpayer dollars to keep them afloat," said GOP Rep. Fred Upton, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Jonathan Silver, executive director of the Energy Department's Loan Programs Office, said the loan guarantee program is needed to give U.S. companies the kind of low-cost financing that other nations are providing their renewable energy industries. For example, the China Development Bank is providing tens of billions of dollars in credit to that country's largest solar panel manufacturers.

"This isn't picking winners and losers," Silver said. "It is helping ensure that we have winners here at all."

Democrats said failure to invest in the U.S. solar industry would amount to an economic death sentence that would allow other nations to dominate a growing business.

"If you live in reality, you know the world cannot continue its dependence on fossil fuels and that we are in danger of losing this industry to our competitors, especially China," said Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif.

Obama advisors raised warning flags before Solyndra bankruptcy

By Tom Hamburger, Kim Geiger and Matea Gold, Washington Bureau

Treasury chief Timothy F. Geithner and others were worried that the selection process for federal loan guarantees fell short and raised the risk that funds could be going to the wrong firms.

Long before the politically connected California solar firm Solyndra went bankrupt, President Obama was warned by his top economic advisors about the financial and political risks of the Energy Department loan guarantee program that boosted the company's rapid ascent.

At a White House meeting in late October, Lawrence H. Summers, then director of the National Economic Council, and Timothy F. Geithner, the Treasury secretary, expressed concerns that the selection process for federal loan guarantees wasn't rigorous enough and raised the risk that funds could be going to the wrong companies, including ones that didn't need the help...

Capitol police investigating Twitter joke from The Onion

The satirical news publication The Onion gets a lot of laughs by crossing the line.

But even some of the most devoted fans of the popular humor outlet were complaining on Thursday that it may have gone too far.

It's The Onion, you dumbasses. What do you expect?

At around 9:30 am, The Onion put out a message to the 3.1 million followers of its Twitter feed @TheOnion. The identical message was posted to The Onion's Facebook page, which has 1.9 million fans.

"BREAKING: Witnesses reporting screams and gunfire heard inside Capitol building," the message said.

And then silence for 10 minutes.

Subsequent tweets and Facebook updates made it clear the message was part of a joke and quashed speculation that The Onion had been hacked.

"Congress Takes Group Of Schoolchildren Hostage," it said with a link to a parody article on TheOnion.com about US lawmakers taking children hostage and vowing to shoot one every hour unless they got "$12 trillion in cash."

That is funny.

As the original Onion tweet rocketed around Twitter, US Capitol Police issued a statement saying conditions there were "normal" and there was "no credibility to these stories or the Twitter feeds."

"The US Capitol Police are currently investigating the reporting," added a spokeswoman for the US Capitol Police, Sergeant Kimberly Schneider.

It's The Onion, you dumbass. They don't do "reporting".

Contacted by AFP, The Onion declined comment.

The joke news story came one day after US authorities said they had arrested a US follower of Al-Qaeda who allegedly planned to fly explosive-packed, remote controlled airplanes into the Pentagon and the US Capitol.

The original message about "screams and gunfire" in the Capitol received hundreds of comments on The Onion's Facebook page, most of them negative.

"Unfunny. unlike," wrote Brendan Burke.

"Poor choice for humor. Hostage taking and gunfire have never been funny," said Pat Donovan Baessler.

"There's a fine line between irreverent humor and poor taste," said Lori Hein. "This post has crossed that line."

Reader Eric Vogel parodied The Onion's original message for his comment.

"BREAKING: Witnesses report that The Onion isn't as funny as it used to be," Vogel said.

Dumbasses.

Other readers expressed surprise anybody could be offended by The Onion.

"Isn't the whole point of The Onion to be tasteless?! Hello!" wrote Debbie Pollack DeKalb.

Exactly.

The Onion is known for attempting to inject a dose of humor into sensitive subjects with fake news stories.

Just two weeks after the September 11 terrorist attacks, it published a story with the headline "Hijackers Surprised to Find Selves in Hell."

That was really funny.

It's not just Philly fans...

...or, another Twitter related tragedy.

From Deadspin:

Two Writers Covering The Eagles Brawl

The Internet has been buzzing about the brawl that occurred this afternoon between Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News and Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, their respective newspapers' Eagles beat writers. The story first got out because of a tweet sent early this afternoon by Howard Eskin, a Philly sports radio personality. Details have been hard to come by, in part, because Eskin was not actually there when shit went down in the media work room at the Eagles' practice facility. And another Eagles beat man for another paper took to Twitter to tell Florio's crew there was no fight, only adding to the confusion. But I just talked to a source who was in the room when it all happened. It's a fantastic tale of f-bombs lobbed, punches and/or slaps thrown, and curious reporters watching from the window as Bowen and McLane sought to settle their differences outside—and with Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel later taunting the two of them mercilessly, as you can hear in the video above.

First, the backstory. Philly is an unusual daily newspaper town, in that the broadsheet Inquirer and the tabloid Daily News compete against one another even though they're owned by the same company, Philadelphia Media Network. They also share the same website, and the integration of their content at Philly.com is so complete it's sometimes difficult to tell which story is the product of which paper. The company, like most metro newspaper enterprises, is also struggling financially: A few weeks back, it got out that PMN had offered buyouts to some employees, and that "those eligible are all current full-time ... newsroom reporters, columnists, writers, editors, artists, photographers, copy editors, make-up persons and desk assistants."

In other words, tensions have been running high. Yesterday morning, things boiled over on Twitter, which set everything up for today's throwdown. McLane first wrote a story that was posted on Philly.com, citing sources, that said Michael Vick was likely to start Sunday despite the bone bruise in his hand. A short time later, Bowen fired off a tweet that said, "Oh, and BTW, nobody has any idea on Tuesday whether Michael Vick is starting this week. It was obvious Monday Andy thinks/hopes he will."

McLane took this as a slight, and soon afterward he responded with a series of tweets that he's since taken down. But the Philly blog Crossing Broad helpfully screen-grabbed them for the rest of us, and here's what they said, in rapid succession:

Yeah. Ouch. Bowen tweeted at someone else a short time later that he "will handle my business in person, not thru yapping on Twitter. But thanks for your concern." Yet what he was actually doing was spoiling for a fight—and right there in the media room.

Shortly after 11 a.m. today, according to a source, McLane and a few other reporters were working in the media room in advance of Eagles head coach Andy Reid's usual Wednesday availability. Bowen, whose work space is on the other side of the room from McLane's, entered and instead walked "with a little extra force" down the row of cubicles on McLane's side, the source said. And then it began.

"Who the fuck are you to question my professionalism?" snapped Bowen, who has maybe 15 to 20 years on McLane. "It's one thing if it's just me and you going at it, but it's another thing to do it in front of thousands of people on Twitter."

At his point, the source said, the two men were inches apart. Bowen contined, calling McLane "an insecure piece of shit" and a "pussy." McLane fired back something about how Bowen should have called him the night before to talk it over, to which Bowen replied, "I'm standing up to you right now."

From there, the source said, Bowen told McLane he was going to "knock [his] fucking teeth down [his] throat" and delivered a punch to the side of McLane's head. McLane, obviously flustered, never really fought back but instead offered to take the matter outside. The source said Bowen delivered at least one more "open-fisted slap" at the side of McLane's head. Phil Sheridan, an Inquirer columnist, stepped between the two to break things up. Eventually, they took it outside, where the five or six reporters in the room watched from the window and through the door to see what would happen next.

The source said McLane and Bowen were outside for at least 10 minutes, talking closely but not actually hitting each other. Eventually, things calmed down, and the day resumed as normal from there. Well, more or less. During practice, Samuel taunted the reporters, saying things like, "I'll give you a prediction on Sunday if you guys come out here and fight." Samuel also paraded around the locker room, as in the video above, at one point brandishing a box that he said contained a prize for the winner of a fight he kept demanding to see. And when McLane asked Reid a question about Vick, Reid gave his answer but finished it by saying it's "nothing to fight over."

It's only fascism if you're not sitting behind him.

Browns fan kicked out of game for standing too much

To stand or not to stand: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the crowd to suffer the boredom and passivity of sitting down or to stand up against the wishes of outrageous management, and by opposing, get kicked out. To stand, to sit? No more.

With the help of noted Cleveland Browns fan Bill Shakespeare, we present the star-crossed tale of Rob Stipe, a Dawg Pound fan who dresses up for games in a wig, face paint and shoulder pads and was recently kicked out of his seat at Cleveland Browns Stadium for standing up too much during games.

Stipe, a ticket holder of 25 years, was told by security personnel to sit during the first quarter of Sunday's game when he was standing during a third down. Later in the game, he was standing again and was asked to leave his seat due to a new rule that immediately boots second-offenders.

Stipe insists his standing isn't excessive. Adam Wright of The Chronicle-Telegram explains:

According to Stipe, "excessive standing" has become a bit of a no-no at Cleveland Browns Stadium over the last few seasons. Last year, he was also scolded for the offense and three sheriff's deputies were sent to meet him outside the bathroom to tell him to use his seat more.

"We do not stand all the time," the 35-year-old explained, referring to the as many as 12 friends and family who share season tickets. "We stand on first down, we stand at the beginning of this game, we stand at kickoff. We stand. We are standers, but we're also courteous to other people. If somebody says, 'Hey man, will you sit down?' Sure, I will love to sit down for you. No problem."

A Browns official told the newspaper that the standing rule is enforced only if other fans complain and that security personnel aren't scanning the crowd for standers. Stipe, who said he always honors requests to sit, admitted later in the story that he'd prefer everyone to stand.

"I hate the people who sit down at a game," he said. "It's not that I try to stand and [expletive] everyone off. I want everyone to stand so that when we're on national TV we don't look like lumps on a log."

National TV? We're talking about the Browns here, right?

Look, I sympathize with Stipe. I much prefer standing to sitting while at games; it makes me feel like I'm into the game more. It also looks much better on television. But the decision to stand or sit is a collective one made by the crowd. If the people behind you aren't standing and aren't taking cues from you to stand, you're a jerk if you keep doing it. Stipe tells a sob story, but I'm guessing his one-sided account leaves out some key details about the extent of his standing, the annoyance of the crowd behind him or his reaction to security personnel. If his version is the complete truth, this is a preposterous miscarriage of ticket-holder justice. More likely than not, he wasn't booted for standing as much as he was for refusing to sit.

The 1960s continue apace.

Nulliparous females are groovy, man.

You remember the 1960s, don't you, kiddies? That's when women discovered they could "safely" be whores. Not for straight cash, of course. That would be très gauche

Facebook über alles.

It's all about the money, kiddies. Zuckerberg doesn't really care about you.

From CNET News:

Facebook: We do track logged-out users, but trust us

There are those for whom Facebook is a way of life.

They commit themselves to it because it's automatic and just so self-empowering.

Many would not have been concerned when, this weekend, a hacker called Nik Cubrilovic offered the interesting information that Facebook seemed to be sucking in data from even those users who have actually logged out.

Indeed, Cubrilovic claimed that even if you log out, Facebook "still knows and can track every page you visit," as its cookies burrow away in your laptop's entrails, consumed by the compulsion to share.

You might think Facebook immediately issued denials at this seemingly pickpocketish process. You might think that flies will only feast on foie gras.

For the company confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that, yes, indeed, Cubrilovic's information was accurate.

But, don't worry, Facebook reportedly said, trust us.

It's true that the minute you view a "Like" button--any "Like" button--Facebook's cookies will send data back to Social Networking Central.

But, as Arturo Bejar, a Facebook director of engineering, told the Journal: "The onus is on us is to take all the data and scrub it."

The people at Facebook are very, very busy people. I've seen little videos showing how hard they work, as they skateboard up and down their offices. How can we possibly be sure that they are scrubbing our data? How can we possibly be sure that they don't, just sometimes, take a little peek? This surely matters to us--or at least those of us who still believe in the overarching power of truth, love, and honesty.

Behar insisted: "What really matters is what we say as a company and back it up."

I am sure that every time someone has tried to offer you life insurance, auto insurance, a mutual fund, or a piece of cheese 10 days past its sell-by date, you have heard them say "trust me" and gone right along.

I am equally sure that you believe the Facebook spokesperson who told the Journal that this data is never used to target ads. Just as I am sure you believe Behar that this monster cookie activity merely exists in order to keep spam and phishing attacks away and to make it easier for you to log in to Facebook without oodles of authentication.

It's just that, well, many people trusted Google until the company confessed to a tiny whoopsie when it admitted that its Street View cars had accidentally recorded private Wi-Fi data.

And many people trusted Facebook until, oh, where would you "Like" me to start?

Trust us, say the engineers. But some real human beings wonder: "What are they actually engineering?"

Facebook strikes again.

From Yahoo's Rivals High:

Mom's Facebook post costs team 3 wins

Parents often scold their children for not being careful about what they write on Facebook. In Tennessee, two star offensive linemen can now turn the table on their own mother after she inadvertently forced their team to vacate three victories from earlier in the 2011 season.

According to the Nashville Tennessean, Perry County (Tenn.) High offensive linemen Rodney Belasic (pictured below and wearing number 75 above) and Ryan Belasic (wearing number 60) transferred in to the school from Henry County (Tenn.) High, where they spent the earlier seasons in their high school career.

However, that transfer has now been rejected after Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association officials learned that the entire Belasic family does not reside in Perry County, a prerequisite for eligibility in the state.

Interestingly, it's how the TSSAA learned that part of the family was still residing in Henry County that has garnered the most attention. According to TSSAA executive director Bernard Childress, the Belasics' mother scolded her sons on Facebook after they left their room in a disorderly state when they departed for a school week in Perry County.

Here's how Childress explained the situation to the Tennessean:

"But the mother actually works in Henry County, and she posted on her Facebook page that she sent the kids back to Perry County for the week and that she would not see them again until Friday night," Childress said. "Then, later on her Facebook page, she posted, 'How can two boys mess up their room as badly as they do when they're only here on Saturday and Sunday?'"

That comment about living there on Saturday and Sunday tipped the TSSAA off to the Belasics' dual residence, and after a brief investigation the organization learned that the Belasics' mother still worked and resided in Henry County.

Because part of the family was still residing in the player's original district, it was ruled that they should not have transferred to a new school until after their mother moved on from the area as well, leaving the two offensive linemen ineligible to play for Perry County.

For his part, Perry County football coach Michael Harrison apologized for the attention brought on the program by the two brothers' ineligibility.

"We are sorry that this investigation happened and that the two players were deemed ineligible," Harrison told the Tennessean via email. "We hope to put this investigation behind us and move forward."

While Perry County's three opening victories have been struck off its record, the team will get to keep its wins from the past two weeks as they came with the Belasics sitting out from action. The Tennessean reported that Perry County players will also be able to keep the statistics they accumulated in those three victories despite the fact that they won't count on the team's official won-lost record.

Still, those personal records will be little solace for a team that likely would have been 5-0 and well on its way to one of the top postseason seeds in Tennessee's smallest division, Class 1A, if not for one mother who resorted to social networking to scold her sloppy teenage sons.

CAIN VS. UNABLE

Thanks to Dennis Miller for the above bumper sticker slogan that should be everywhere this time next year as Americans take a step on the road back to reality.

HERMAN CAIN FOR PRESIDENT!

If you oppose the death penalty, you might be a dumbass.

Ann Coulter knows why we need the death penalty. Do you?

Mumia's The Word
by Ann Coulter

For decades, liberals tried persuading Americans to abolish the death penalty, using their usual argument: hysterical sobbing.

Only when the media began lying about innocent people being executed did support for the death penalty begin to waver, falling from 80 percent to about 60 percent in a little more than a decade. (Silver lining: That's still more Americans than believe in man-made global warming.)

Fifty-nine percent of Americans now believe that an innocent man has been executed in the last five years. There is more credible evidence that space aliens have walked among us than that an innocent person has been executed in this country in the past 60 years, much less the past five years.

But unless members of the public are going to personally review trial transcripts in every death penalty case, they have no way of knowing the truth. The media certainly won't tell them.

It's nearly impossible to receive a death sentence these days -- unless you do something completely crazy like shoot a cop in full view of dozens of witnesses in a Burger King parking lot, only a few hours after shooting at a passing car while exiting a party.

That's what Troy Davis did in August 1989. Davis is the media's current baby seal of death row.

After a two-week trial with 34 witnesses for the state and six witnesses for the defense, the jury of seven blacks and five whites took less than two hours to convict Davis of Officer Mark MacPhail's murder, as well as various other crimes. Two days later, the jury sentenced Davis to death.

Now, a brisk 22 years after Davis murdered Officer MacPhail, his sentence will finally be administered this week -- barring any more of the legal shenanigans that have kept taxpayers on the hook for Davis' room and board for the past two decades.

(The average time on death row is 14 years. Then liberals turn around and triumphantly claim the death penalty doesn't have any noticeable deterrent effect. As the kids say: Duh.)

It has been claimed -- in The New York Times and Time magazine, for example -- that there was no "physical evidence" connecting Davis to the crimes that night.

Davis pulled out a gun and shot two strangers in public. What "physical evidence" were they expecting? No houses were broken into, no cars stolen, no rapes or fistfights accompanied the shootings. Where exactly would you look for DNA? And to prove what?

I suppose it would be nice if the shell casings from both shootings that night matched. Oh wait -- they did. That's "physical evidence."

It's true that the bulk of the evidence against Davis was eyewitness testimony. That tends to happen when you shoot someone in a busy Burger King parking lot.

Eyewitness testimony, like all evidence tending to show guilt, has gotten a bad name recently, but the "eyewitness" testimony in this case did not consist simply of strangers trying to distinguish one tall black man from another. For one thing, several of the eyewitnesses knew Davis personally.

The bulk of the eyewitness testimony established the following:

Two tall, young black men were harassing a vagrant in the Burger King parking lot, one in a yellow shirt and the other in a white Batman shirt. The one in the white shirt used a brown revolver to pistol-whip the vagrant. When a cop yelled at them to stop, the man in the white shirt ran, then wheeled around and shot the cop, walked over to his body and shot him again, smiling.

Some eyewitnesses described the shooter as wearing a white shirt, some said it was a white shirt with writing, and some identified it specifically as a white Batman shirt. Not one witness said the man in the yellow shirt pistol-whipped the vagrant or shot the cop.

Several of Davis' friends testified -- without recantation -- that he was the one in a white shirt. Several eyewitnesses, both acquaintances and strangers, specifically identified Davis as the one who shot Officer MacPhail.

Now the media claim that seven of the nine witnesses against Davis at trial have recanted.

First of all, the state presented 34 witnesses against Davis -- not nine -- which should give you some idea of how punctilious the media are about their facts in death penalty cases.

Among the witnesses who did not recant a word of their testimony against Davis were three members of the Air Force, who saw the shooting from their van in the Burger King drive-in lane. The airman who saw events clearly enough to positively identify Davis as the shooter explained on cross-examination, "You don't forget someone that stands over and shoots someone."

Recanted testimony is the least believable evidence since it proves only that defense lawyers managed to pressure some witnesses to alter their testimony, conveniently after the trial has ended. Even criminal lobbyist Justice William Brennan ridiculed post-trial recantations.

Three recantations were from friends of Davis, making minor or completely unbelievable modifications to their trial testimony. For example, one said he was no longer sure he saw Davis shoot the cop, even though he was five feet away at the time. His remaining testimony still implicated Davis.

One alleged recantation, from the vagrant's girlfriend (since deceased), wasn't a recantation at all, but rather reiterated all relevant parts of her trial testimony, which included a direct identification of Davis as the shooter.

Only two of the seven alleged "recantations" (out of 34 witnesses) actually recanted anything of value -- and those two affidavits were discounted by the court because Davis refused to allow the affiants to testify at the post-trial evidentiary hearing, even though one was seated right outside the courtroom, waiting to appear.

The court specifically warned Davis that his refusal to call his only two genuinely recanting witnesses would make their affidavits worthless. But Davis still refused to call them -- suggesting, as the court said, that their lawyer-drafted affidavits would not have held up under cross-examination.

With death penalty opponents so fixated on Davis' race -- he's black -- it ought to be noted that all the above witnesses are themselves African-American. The first man Davis shot in the car that night was African-American.

I notice that the people so anxious to return this sociopathic cop-killer to the street don't live in his neighborhood.

There's a reason more than a dozen courts have looked at Davis' case and refused to overturn his death sentence. He is as innocent as every other executed man since at least 1950, which is to say, guilty as hell.

HERMAN CAIN WHACKS THE REPANSYCAN ESTABLISHMENT IN FLORIDA!!!

Please vote for one of the two real conservatives [and real men] in the race, Mr. Cain or Rick Santorum.

You can smell the loathing dripping from the "reporting" of Washington's other newspaper:

Cain wins Florida straw poll, finishing far ahead of Perry

Businessman Herman Cain won the Florida GOP presidential straw poll in a major surprise Saturday, as Republicans here delivered a rebuke to Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Cain, who delivered what delegates called a stirring speech just before the balloting, won 37 percent of the more than 2,600 votes from Republicans who came here from across the state to participate.

Perry, who had been expected to easily win the straw poll before a performance in a presidential debate Thursday that many Republicans here felt was lackluster, received 15 percent. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who did not officially compete here and essentially ceded the contest to Perry, finished third with 14 percent.

Mark Miner, a Perry spokesman, said the straw poll results simply reflected the fact that “we’ve been in the race for five weeks.”

“My heart was always with Herman [Cain], but I thought Perry was more electable,” said Brian Donnelly, a Republican from Broward County who backed Cain. But, he said, “Perry needs to work on his debating. We don’t need somebody else like [President George W.] Bush, another tongue-tied Texan.”

The results of the straw poll are non-binding, and Cain remains a long shot to win the Republican nomination because of his lack of funding and political organization in key states.

Cain, an African American in a party with few major black figures, benefited because only he, former House speaker Newt Gingrich and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum stayed in Florida to speak to the delegates right before the vote, while other candidates left the state early. But while Romney had a limited presence here, Perry competed hard.

Before leaving for a party event in Michigan, the Texas governor organized a 7 a.m breakfast Saturday morning for Florida Republican activists. He spent an hour there going table-by-table, meeting and taking pictures before giving a short speech.

But in interviews, the delegates at the straw poll said Perry had for now lost their votes after Thursday’s debate, in which he at times struggled to answer questions, raising doubts about his ability to compete with President Obama in a debate if he is the GOP nominee.

And he annoyed many conservatives in Florida and nationally by saying people who did not back his decision to allow the children of illegal immigrants in Texas to get reduced in-state tuition at the state’s public colleges don’t “have a heart.”

He said, ‘Poor immigrants, they’ve been through enough,’ ” said Margi Helschien, a Republican from Palm Beach County who attended Perry’s speech Saturday morning but also opted for Cain. “What does he mean, is he going to give them free college? I was confused.”

Sid Dinerstein, another Republican here, said “this was supposed to be Gov. Perry’s week. But he had that bad night.”

The straw poll completed three days of campaigning in Florida by the GOP hopefuls, including the debate. Party activists from across the state came to Orlando for the event, dubbed Presidency 5, as it was held for the fifth time.

While Florida voters did not hold a straw poll in 2007, the previous three winners (Ronald Reagan 1979; George H.W. Bush, 1987; and Robert J. Dole, 1995), all went on to the Republican nomination.

The Republicans here who backed Cain acknowledged he is not likely to repeat that history.

It's the Cats and the Magpies in the Grand Final!

My Geelong Cats face a tough test in the Collingwood Magpies Saturday at the MCG. Though I do have a soft spot for the Magpies [I'm an old school Heckle and Jeckle fan, kiddies.], I love the Cats.

Here's a preview from AFL.com:

Grand Final preview: Collingwood v Geelong

WHERE AND WHEN:
MCG, Saturday 1 October, 2.30pm
HEAD TO HEAD: Collingwood 126 wins, Geelong 94 wins, one draw
LAST TIME: Geelong 22.17 (149) d Collingwood 8.5 (53), round 24, 2011 at the MCG
TV, RADIO AND BETTING: Click here for broadcast guide and odds
A full replay will be available on afl.com.au 12 hours after the completion of the match
FORM: Collingwood: WLWBW Geelong: LWWBW

SUMMARY
It's the Grand Final most footy purists had hoped for since midway through the season.

Although there's an injury cloud or two hanging over the combatants, the best two teams all season will line up at the MCG on Saturday.

Geelong and Collingwood have won the past two flags and suffered only five losses between them all season.

The fascinating match-ups start in the coaches' box. Mick Malthouse will oversee his last game in charge after 28 seasons, while at the other end of the scale, Chris Scott will coach in a Grand Final in his debut campaign.

Injuries will play a big part in the build-up, with Geelong sweating on the availability of mercurial half-forward Steve Johnson (knee) and Collingwood waiting on ruckman Darren Jolly (groin) and All-Australian defender Ben Reid (hamstring).

They've played twice this season, with Geelong winning the round eight clash in a controversial nail-biter (remember Scott Pendlebury's no-goal after playing on?) and demolishing the premiers just a month ago in round 24.

QUESTION MARKS
Can the Magpies get the ball inside 50 enough to give themselves a chance? In their two meetings this season, the Cats have suffocated the usually free-flowing Magpies, winning the inside 50 count by a staggering 62-42 (round eight) and 68-35 (round 24). Unless Collingwood find a way to get the ball forward more often to give Travis Cloke and Chris Dawes some opportunities, they could be in for a long afternoon.

Will Geelong play a defensive half-forward on Leon Davis? It's not in the Cats' nature to be too defensive, but through Paul Puopolo last week, Hawthorn showed the laser-like skills of Davis can be ruffled under pressure. The All-Australian sets up a lot of Collingwood's attack from the back half with his pin-point passing, and stifling that could help the Cats go a long way towards winning.

PREDICTION
Geelong by 11 points.

Captain Israel #2 Censored Over Martin Luther

Captain Israel is a polemic superhero comic book by Jewish comics expert Arlen Schumer.

Its second issue, planned to be published well before San Diego Comic Con and Shumer’s panels at the show, did not come out.

The reason is that the publisher, Los Angeles-based StandWithUs wishes to remove from the comic an English translation of the document The Jews And Their Lies by Martin Luther, initiator of the Protestant Reformation and a prominent anti-semite, especially later in life. The publisher has told Arlen that if this reference is removed, the comic can be published.

Naturally, Arlen is not happy about that.

I must admit I find this puzzling. As a Christian, and a member of the Church Of England, I am not offended by the knowledge that prominent Christians were (and in some cases still are) notorious anti-semites. No more than I’m sure Arlen is offended by the knowledge that prominent Jews were (and in some cases still are) notorious racists. Certainly the Lutheran church happily and openly condemns the document in question, but even they don’t seek to hide it.

Instead, it’s a lesson.

I understand Arlen is now looking for another publisher.

As a result, he even received a custom made copy of an Electron Boy comic book to top it off.

The sad news is that Erik passed away this morning in Seattle’s Children’s Hospital. Eric had a short life. But thanks to the Make A Wish Foundation, he spent one day of it as a real life superhero… he’s certainly been an inspiration to many.

America's third most famous race baitin' bastard has even more in common with Fidel Castro than we thought.

Of course they're both commie creeps. Everybody knows that, so you have to guess again.

Nope. While ol' Jesse is beat up, diseased, and dried out, he's not an automaton stuffed with tobacco leaves like Castro.

The leftist perverts who infest the psychological profession tell us anyone who "hates" homosexuals must be a closeted one. They let Fidel get away with shooting and jailing Cuba's pink hombres, so I doubt the establishment will let this matter get very far.

From 11Alive.com:

Jesse Jackson subject of gay harassment complaint

CHICAGO (WMAQ) -- A former employee of the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. at the Rainbow Push Coalition has filed a bombshell wrongful termination and discrimination complaint against the civil rights leader with the City of Chicago's Commission on Human Rights.

The complaint, filed sometime last year by Tommy R. Bennett, a regular on the Tom Joyner Radio show and member of Barack Obama's LGBT Leadership Council, includes shocking allegations about Jackson's behavior toward the openly gay staffer including an allegation that the civil rights leader propositioned him.

Jesse, Jesse, Jesse...why won't you just admit you prefer penile-Americans and embrace it?

Jackson has denied the allegations in a legal response that was filed in July 2010 and resurfaced when the Windy City Times published a story Tuesday.

Bennett, 55, claims Jackson ridiculed him in front of other employees and required him to perform "humiliating tasks" like escorting women to Jackson's various hotel rooms, cleaning up after alleged trysts and packing his clothing. It also includes an allegation that Jackson asked for oral sex, according to the claim. Jackson flatly denied each claim in his response.

Obviously, Jesse is overcompensating by boinking all those women. Or maybe he's trying to be just like MLK Jr., for whom Jesse took a half dozen bullets, two grenades, and a thirty second point blank blast from a flame thrower on that fateful day in Memphis. [Speaking of which, how about those Jackie Kennedy tapes? Apparently, the denizens of Camelot saw Dr. King as one of those uppity negroes who wouldn't obey his betters.]

I'm guessing if Bennett had said yes, Jesse would have made him wear a Monica Lewinsky mask...

"The Rainbow PUSH Coalition unequivocally deny Tommy Bennett's false claims of harassment, retaliation and discrimination," the organization said in a statement released late Thursday, adding that it is "fully cooperating with the Chicago Commission on Human Relations and expect to be fully exonerated."

Bennett has not commented to NBCChicago.

Bennett worked for the Rainbow PUSH Coalition for more than two years as the National Director of Community Affairs. The complaint states that Bennett endured a string of discriminatory treatment from multiple supervisors, but his protests were met with deaf ears.

In 2008, Bennett assumed the duties of Jackson's travel assistant.

In that capacity, Bennett alleges to "clean his [hotel] room after sexual intercourse with women."

What kind of a man of God is this "reverend" Jackson? All good left fascists know that love ick [Keep it classy, Imus.] is a beautiful thing and doesn't need to be "cleaned up".

Bennett's complaint requests back and front pay, compensation for emotional distress and punitive damages all to the tune of roughly $450,000. Bennett also wants an amendment to the civil rights organization's non-discrimination policy to include sexual orientation and gender identity.

Jackson, a former presidential candidate, has been married to his wife, Jacqueline Lavinia Brown, since 1962, but has had bouts with infidelity. One affair with a staffer resulted in the birth of a girl in 1999.

"Bouts with infidelity"? Does he slap these poor women with no self respect upside their heads, too? How many of them are actually black? Does he use rubbers?

He has five children with Brown, including Jesse Jackson, Jr., who represents Illinois' 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives.

About Me

My photo
First of all, the word is SEX, not GENDER. If you are ever tempted to use the word GENDER, don't. The word is SEX! SEX! SEX! SEX! For example: "My sex is male." is correct. "My gender is male." means nothing. Look it up. What kind of sick neo-Puritan nonsense is this? Idiot left-fascists, get your blood-soaked paws off the English language. Hence I am choosing "male" under protest.
