Florida Today: Tissue box sign saves 2 trapped in car
A Volusia County mall security guard who noticed a "call 911, help" note in a car window likely saved the lives of two elderly women who became trapped when their vehicle's battery died and the automatic locks failed.
Officials said two women in their 80s were recovering Saturday from heat stroke and heat exhaustion after spending several hours trapped inside a Cadillac at the Volusia Mall.
More from the Daytona Beach News-Journal:
A sheriff's deputy said the women were locked in the car for nearly two hours in 95-degree heat after the battery apparently died. The windows in the car were fogged up from the breath of the two women. The pair did not know the automatic locks could be unlocked manually from inside the car, the deputy said. (Emphasis mine.)
Take care of your elderly family members and friends, kiddies. A little kindness and patience may save a life or two...
