The Pelosi/Reid Era of Sunshine and Gumdrops continues apace.

When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun?
When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting on death row?
(From The Guns of Brixton by The Clash)

First, I present the typical AmericaLast Media opinion of the latest totalitarian attempt to gut The First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America [Do not fool yourselves, kiddies, that is exactly what they want to do. Why else would they mess with something that has worked for two hundred years?]:

TV Week [???]: House Passes Federal Media Shield Law

Warning that attempts to force reporters to reveal confidential sources are endangering the public’s right to know, the U.S. House of Representatives today approved what would be the first federal media shield law, despite the Bush administration’s strong opposition.

Here is a poorly reasoned opinion on the subject by someone who has gotten too much sun in Hawai'i*:

Honolulu Star-Bulletin: Protect press sources in federal court cases

Rep. Neil Abercrombie, the lone Democrat to vote against a media shield law, is correct in arguing that the First Amendment alone should protect journalists from disclosing their confidential sources. Unfortunately, the federal courts have ruled otherwise and a shield law is needed to establish a modicum of protection with consistency throughout the U.S. judicial system.

The bill was approved by an overwhelming 398-21 vote in the House, more than enough to override a veto promised by President Bush.

Sorry about the warning signs, kiddies, but OSHA mandates clear marking of stories that will kill brain cells.

*Hey, what's with that apostrophe?

Silly me. That's no apostrophe, that's a glottal stop.
