The Fond du Lac Reporter: Elderly man beats intruder with shoehorn

Town of Lebanon, Wisconsin — A man accused of breaking into and tormenting an elderly town of Lebanon couple early Monday morning has been arrested.

A man forced himself into the couple’s home about 1 a.m. and demanded money, according to a Dodge County Sheriff’s Department press release. The man threatened to shoot the couple, but the husband, in his 80s, beat the man with a shoehorn and the intruder fled.

A 46-year-old Clintonville man has been arrested and is being held in the Dodge County Jail. Another man believed to be connected to the crime was arrested in Waukesha County, according to the release. Both men are on probation for previous crimes.

According to police reports, the woman, in her 80s, noticed someone outside their home and quickly woke her husband. The intruder kicked in their door and entered the bedroom and confronted the husband, demanding money. The husband, also in his 80s, told the man to leave or he would shoot the intruder. The intruder said he was armed and would “blow his head off.”

The husband armed himself with a long shoehorn and began beating the intruder about the head forcing him from the residence, according to the release.

Too bad the elderly gentleman did not have a shotgun handy...
