AFP: NKorean leader's niece committed suicide in Paris: report

SEOUL (AFP) - A niece of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il has committed suicide in Paris after clashing with her parents over her choice of boyfriend, an Internet news service has said.

Jang Keum-Song, 29, recently took her own life after her parents refused to allow her marry her boyfriend because his family background was not deemed good enough, the Daily NK said, quoting an unidentified source in Europe.

"Miss Jang recently committed suicide in Paris because of her marriage issue," the source was quoted as saying by the South Korean Internet news service, run by conservative journalists and defectors from the North.

Jang is a daugther of Jang Sung-Taek, deputy minister in charge of construction in Pyongyang and Kim Kyong-Hee, sister of North Korea's reclusive leader Kim Jong-Il.

According to South Korea's Yonhap news agency, Jang died from from an overdose of sleeping pills taken after drinking alcohol and her body was found by her chauffeur and a housekeeper the following day.

Her body was immediately sent back to Pyongyang.

Quoting an unidentified source, Yonhap said she had distraught after being told to cut short her studies in Paris and return home.
