How sad is this one, kiddies?
Police in Haverford Township (Delaware County), Pa. are looking for thieves who stole money from the charitable organization "Alex’s Lemonade Stand."
Police say they have surveillance tape that appears to show four juveniles breaking into the foundation’s Ardmore office last weekend. They rummaged through the offices and stole a substantial amount of cash that was raised to fight cancer.
Liz Scott (left) says the break-in came just days before the second anniversary of her daughter’s death:
"The fact that they stole cash which was raised at lemonade stands to me was just beyond upsetting. It really was disturbing, and I felt like it was very disrespectful to the cause and to Alex.”
Alex Scott died of cancer at age 8, four years after she began the fundraising effort that bears her name (file photo above). As of May 2006, her national campaign has raised over $6 million for childhood cancer research.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call Haverford police.
(Thanks to KYW for the heads up.)
