NBC 10 Philadelphia: Pennsylvania Minimum Wage To Go Up $2 Per Hour

Gov. Ed Rendell signed the bill raising the minimum wage by $2 an hour Sunday in Philadelphia at Sharon Baptist Church in Wynnefield Heights.

The minimum wage increase will be phased in over the next year.

Here are some details from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry:

For businesses with 11 or more employees:
By Jan. 1, 2007 the minimum wage must be raised to $6.25 an hour
By July 1, 2007 the minimum wage must be raised to $7.15 an hour

For the estimated 207,000 Pennsylvania businesses with 10 or less employees:
By Jan. 1, 2007 the minimum wage must be raised to $5.65 an hour
By July 1, 2007 the minimum wage must be raised to $6.65 an hour
By July 1, 2008 the minimum wage must be raised to $7.15 an hour

Currently 423,000 Pennsylvanians earn less than $7.15 an hour.
