UPI: No tag allowed at recess

A number of U.S. elementary schools are banning tag and touch football at recess because they are too dangerous.
In January, Freedom Elementary School in Cheyenne, Wyo., prohibited tag at recess because it "progresses easily into slapping and hitting and pushing instead of just touching," Principal Cindy Farwell told USA Today.
Contact sports such as touch football and soccer were banned from recess at Charles Pinckney Elementary in suburban Charleston, S.C., earlier this year because children suffered broken arms and dislocated fingers.
Similar actions have been taken in Wichita, San Jose, Calif., Beaverton, Ore., and Rancho Santa Fe., Calif., the newspaper said.
Critics of the bans say playing freely helps kids learn how to negotiate rules and resolve disputes.
