Top Islamic Jihad terrorist, 5 others killed in Israel raids
In the Sunday raids, Israeli troops surrounded a house where the target of the operation, Elias Ashkar, a top Islamic Jihad terrorist, was holed up. Clashes erupted, and Israeli forces came under fire from both inside and outside the house. The Israel Security Agency revealed Sunday that Ashkar - dubbed Israel's No. 1 terror suspect - assembled the explosives belt used in the TA suicide bombing last month.
Abbas marks day mourning Israel's creation, calls for peace talks
Mahmoud Abbas on Monday called for Israel to return to the negotiating table during a speech marking the anniversary of what the Palestinians consider to be the "catastrophe" of Israel's creation. Abbas also urged Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip to halt rocket attacks on Israel. He said the violence encourages Israel to step up its military activity and proceed with unilateral plans to impose a border on the Palestinians.
