Yet another reason why all children should be taught how to properly handle firearms.

From LancasterOnline.com:

The 17-year-old Solanco junior who died of a gunshot wound Friday was “messing around” with a handgun he believed was not loaded, witnesses told police.

Shane C. Tavella was hanging out with three teenage friends inside a home near Quarryville Friday morning when one of them — Curtis Romano, who lived there — wanted his pals to see the weapon.

The two other friends, both fellow Solanco High School students, told police after the shooting: “Shane was messing around with the gun and took the clip out, not realizing there was a bullet in the chamber.

“He put it under his chin and pulled the trigger.”

May God have mercy on his soul.
