Why figure skating is NOT a sport...

The stunning Miss Sasha Cohen is an athlete, but she participates in something other than sport.
...or, Rats! I had Emily Hughes and the points.

From ABC News:

Sasha Cohen stood in the middle of the ice long after her program ended, her eyes wide as she drank in the applause. Then she dropped into a deep curtsy, bowing to all four sides of the arena.

After all these years of waiting, she's finally a champion. And she was going to savor every minute of it.

While Michelle Kwan waited back home in California to see if she'd get a spot on her third Olympic team, Cohen proved herself a worthy successor, winning her first title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in a rout Saturday night.

"I've got a lot of silvers in different shoeboxes in storage units all over the place. But I think the gold one will have a special place," said Cohen, who couldn't take her eyes off the medal during the awards ceremony said.

She finished with 199.18 points, more than 28 points ahead of second place Kimmie Meissner. Emily Hughes, little sister of 2002 Olympic champion Sarah, was third but it might not take her any further than the podium in St. Louis with Kwan asking for a medical bye.

Only Cohen was guaranteed a spot on the Olympic team. The federation's 35-person international committee was to select the other two members of the team at a meeting late Saturday: basically a choice between Kwan and Hughes.

Getting points from judges is politics, not competition. Next month in Turin (And what's with this Turino stuff? That's supposed to be just for us paisans.) watch hockey. (Even chick hockey.) You can tell who's winning at any time and when it's over, you'll know it.
